View Full Version : Maast Load Time

It seems like I have the darnedest time getting MAAST to load sometimes.
Even when MAAST won't load (i.e. IE error page) every other page on other websites work just fine.
Why is this?
Is there something I can do to fix it?

Lol, be nice David. :)

That could be! Actually, it's my home computer so the MAAST server would have no way of telling...unless...David did you tell?

Brian?
It's almost as if MAAST freezes up but nothing else freezes up.

I've had that happen in the past but never knew what it was. I assume you have tried deleting your cookies and trying it again? That seems to be the first thing people say when you have troubles with a site.

Yeah, I've deleted the cookies. This is been happening for a while now, on and off.
Just incase anyone is curious, I have Vista Ult w/ IE8. Oh and my desktop internet traffic meter, falls flat on 0kbs when this problem happens.

Try it in Firefox/Opera/Chrome/Any other browser than IE -- see if the problem persists there :)

Good idea but I was trying to avoid that. I am very happy with IE and would prefer not to change that if I don't have too.

open a dos prompt and ping another site ie google
if that ping drops the same time you cant get to maast, you have a problem with your isp.

I pinged both google and maast. OF COURSE BOTH ARE WORKING SO THIS DOESN'T REALLY COUNT.
Tony, the next time I have a problem with MAAST I will ping MAAST and see if it drops.

add a -t after the ping statement so it will keep running more than 5 pings
ctrl-c will stop it

The ping can only really be used to determine if connectivity is possible -- load times are always relative. Google is a poor example of a test for lag to other sites -- its designed to be 'lo-fi' and fast loading.. Perfect for pinpointing if its a general connectiviy issue though.
Also, i get the hesitance to switch browsers, but on a personal security and exploit level, its safer to use Firefox/Opera/Chrome... While they are all competing to be the most used browsers, they also focus individually on fixing the security holes that have been introduced, either directly affecting IE components, or involving 'work-around' code to make IE play nice.. Just a personal preference :)

So, I had the problem this morning from about 10:20-10:25. MAAST wouldn't load, at all, but other sites were. As soon as I realized I had the problem, I went over to the CMD prompt. Here's my results...

After pinging both sites, I refreshed MAAST but it still wasn't working yet.
The above results show that both sites worked and are almost identical to Saturday's results.
So, in conclusion, I can ping MAAST even though it won't load up (at times).
Any ideas?

Are you actually getting an error, or connection timeout when you try to browse? Sometimes a read/request on the database that is MAAST may take longer, or your database request is 'in line' behind others.. Anytime a database is added to the mix, esp. one of this size, load times are inherintly longer. Install firefox as well -- eliminate the possibility that its IE... Next time it happens, try firefox..
Your ping results say the issue is not ISP/connectivity related, so i'd start looking elsewhere..

No errors what-so-ever.

If this is indeed the problem, what can MAAST do to increase the speed of the requests.

I'm going to DL FF and have it on hand for when the problems happens again.

the ping was mostly to test possible dns issues more than anything, appears to be working though
your problem is most likely local to your machine, i browse maast all day on 3 different computers using 3 different isps and have no problems.
i would try another browser

It's one of the Maast Mysteries. Just like since they moved the website over to this format awhile back I can't get email notifications from Maast for some weird reason. Never figured it out.

I'm not happy to hear this but I'm glad I'm not alone.
FYI, corruption (and anyone else), today when MAAST "went down" for me, I tried Firefox to no avail. It's not the browser brother.
I like captexas' response, one of "MAAST mysteries," lol!

I have the same problem also, on my home computer. When I use Opera, it eventually shows DNS error. Click reload and it goes away. I have the same problem on my iPhone, but only when using WiFi through the same router as my home computer. MAAST is the only site I see this on.
