All these nano and pico threads has me contemplating setting up a 10 gallon I have laying around. I was looking at this light and thought I would get opinions from more light savvy folks. It appears to be 65k, Par 38 w/ 5 X 8 watt LEDs. Does the par sound like enough for a mixed reef? I would also supplement w/ 420/ 460 nm actinics.

Pretty sure 6500 Kelvin is going to be really yellow. Corals will probably like it...but it's going to be ugly like a fuge light even with supplemental lighting.

You are probably right, I haven't seen 65K in person to know just how ugly it would be. I was thinking some deep 420 nm could wash it out while giving me killer growth. I looked at sanjay's lighting guide and saw some low end 150w MH had a par in the 30's so I think the par would be ok. It's really hard to find a 10K (much less any kelvin ratings) when shopping hardware stores.

6500K is WAY yellow. I have some 4 foot T5's that are 6500K. Next time you are at the house I'll put one in my fixture and let you see it. Makes the tank look kind of ugly.

my last fuge light was 6500k , it was very yellow. Maybe you could pull it off.

Hey...maybe you could make green if it's yellow enough and you supplement. That would be super ugly and cool at the same time.

We may have exaggerated a little bit. But yeah...it's pretty ugly. LOL!

I guess I could use it to grow the coral out and then switch to a nicer light when it's full. I have my 58g DT so it's not like I wouldn't have a prettier tank to look at. It could be my "butterface" tank.

nah dude...use it to grow the coral and if anyone comes over just turn it off and turn the actinics on. LOL! They'll never know.

Here is the par38 LED bulb I have: http://maast.org/forums/showpost.php?p=703720&postcount=155

It's from nanotuners and is 12k, but comes in other spectrum choices...

Awesome color. Do you have a pic of it on your tank?
