Falling off the chair while watching the fish doesn't nearly hurt as much as falling off a horse. Plus it's in air condition. :)
Seriously though it's such a great combination of aesthetics and pets. You are creating a picture/sculpture and enjoying animals at the same time. I also like the chemistry and biology part of it. So much to learn even after years of doing it!

Oh, that question would have meant something considerably different to me twenty years ago. :)
It's a great hobby that puts science and pets together. Awe-Some!

to me its just like a video game that requires patience. it forces you to make correct decisions and if you make the wrong one, it costs $$$ and your wife/husband chases after you with a knife. but after playing it for long enough it rewards you in a way that not too many other things can. and it reminds you that things are not in your control. you plant the seeds and they grow into something you could not ever imagine.

You should consider stand-up. You are constantly making me laugh.

I'm a newbie so I can't claim this title, but I can see why it's not to hard to get hooked. It makes you think and work with your hands. There is tons of different things to do in this hobby. I love the idea of how much info one must know to keep a happy little ecosystem. It covers almost everything from building, designing, planning, math, chemistry, biology, and the most important(I think), is being able to enjoy some of what makes nature so amazing.

I love how hard you have to think. It's my own little laboratory and I will never know it all.

It's definitely not as expensive as crack, but it might be more addicting.

I am in constant need for a challenge and after breeding Discus fish and having the fry survive for 4 days(the Angel fish ate them). I felt I had accomplished freshwater Discus being King of freshwater fish. I began my saltwater journey and it completes me. It will always be a challenge and there is always something that needs to be done. This is by far the most fulfilling hobby I have ever had.

I needed a hobby that my whole family could enjoy (and would keep me away from my computer games for longer stretches of time). My wife had no idea what she was doing when she suggested a fish tank.
I was once told (in a lfs here in town) that reef keeping is like being addicted to drugs, except the drugs are be cheaper and would make me happier.

Oh c'mon, one look at me and you can tell I'm a reefe... oh... yeah, fish! ;)
I got into the hobby because after I broke my back, I was in dire need of something to fill my excess time.. Saltwater tanks had always fascinated me, so once I had the time to actually dive into the hobby, I went in full steam. Its solace :)

I have always lived in tropical climates, Panama, Hawaii, Florida, Cali and moving to Texas was a bit of a culture shock for me. My only escape was to bring what I loved most into the home...the ocean.
I absolutely love sharing my piece of the ocean with my family and friends every time they come over. It's a great escape from the TV and computer. It's challenging and educational. My oldest son (almost 3) loves helping with the tank and he already knows what Macro Algae is, sand, refugium, fish and water. LOL!

Well, we had all this extra money laying around and couldn't figure out what to do with it, so... yeah, right!
We originally GOT in because we had always kept freshwater aquariums and just found them so soothing and peaceful and beautiful, but knew how much MORE beautiful it would be to keep saltwater, so Mike always told me that as soon as we moved into a house that we knew we would be staying in, he wanted to give it a try.
We have STAYED in and become involved to the extent we have because we were amazed by how much enjoyment we got from our first little 10g tank. We can look at our tank for hours and would much rather watch our fish than TV most nights. It is also great that it's a passion we share together, so many of our "date nights" involved stopping by a LFS to check out their latest shipment!
Overall the thing that hooks me the most in this hobby is the constant challenge of it. Feels like a puzzle that can never be fully solved, always changing when you think you've got it figured out. Also the beauty of it and the sentimental attachment to the pets inside the tanks.

LOL! But, I don't live in CC do I? I live in San Antonio....3 hours from the coast. I see the real ocean once every 6 months to a year...that's hardly living near the ocean. When I do see it I love it. I love the coast....any coast...coastal areas seem to have a special relaxing atmosphere about them. I guess the same goes for country living.
Granted it's not as nice as some of the other places around the world, but it's still the ocean and has it's own perks.
I need to be in the country or at the coast. Anything but the city. I hate city living. Too fast for me. Traffic, lines....blah blah blah.

This hobby should come with some kind of warning label.
