Vets prescribe it for animals... it also kills SPS red bugs that tend to love acros and eat their flesh.

Here's a great article about all kinds of dipping techniques:

Yeah, I had to take that article into my Vet when I asked for the Interceptor. He'd, obviously, never seen it used that way before.

That's funny. Bet he got a kick out of it.

He asked if he could keep the article. I also showed him a picture of the tank. We've been regulars there for over 20 years.

ross, the little yellow copepods with red dots are red bugs. they can cause problems with Acropora

Yep... those red dots are the dead "give away" to their identity.

But you can also be fooled into thinking your red copepods are these because they are the same size but the entire bodies are red. The bad ones (red bugs) are actually yellow/orange with a single red dot as seen in Ace's pics.

Thanks for the info. I had an idea what the red bugs were but had not heard of the interceptor.

I have the solid red ones and was freaking out until Rob told me that those aren't the red bugs to worry about.

I did the same thing until Bernie told me they were just pods. Then a year later I got the true red bugs. You know you have them when you do!

christy put it in the tank at 2 and there are no signs of those little pests now. all that is left to do is some carbon tonight and a water change tomorrow :)

Ok so what was your process?

1. pulverize two pills into powder
2. dissolve in a little bit of tank water
3. (if i had one) turn off air to skimmer but not circulation
4. pour into tank
5. 6.5 hours later, restart the air on the skimmer and add active carbon (i use a media reactor)
6. after 24 hours do a sizable water change, i did 20%
