Unless the correct status with the State of Texas is not showing up, its does not matter, as MAAST is already operating unlawfully under Texas law. What good is a tax exemption status as a non-profit with the IRS, you you cannot operate lawfully in the State you are chartered in.

I can't remember the specifics, but the CPA, the IRS and Sherri, our Treasurer are all aware of this "status". As I sketchily (is that a word) recall, one of the the items the IRS asked us to resolve was this issue, and if I'm recalling correctly, this was either recently taken care of, or is in the process of being taken care of.
I'm hoping Sherri will jump in here.
Sherri is jumping in here with the latest update as of 12/7/09...
Went by Comptroller's Office here in San Antonio today (12/7/009) with all paperwork needed...signed...received in return a letter stating:
The referenced entity (MAAST) has met all franchise tax requirements and is eligible for reinstatement through December, 31, 2009.
Letter was then hand delivered to our CPA - in turn she emailed to the Treasury. MAAST is now in correct standing with the State of Texas. There is one (1) response left to take care of....inserting one paragraph into our Articles of Declaration...which I am now working on. This should be all that has been asked for by the Treasury working on our Non Profit Status.
Hope this makes you all feel a little better. It's getting there.

Mr. Drunkenclam......good late evening....
Your statement above is quite a shock to me - especially when you have no idea what is in the works. To make a statement such as this and then follow up with a question as to an update on our NP status is quite disturbing to say the least.
I assure you and all the members here at MAAST that all is good in MAAST tax land and with the State. As far as the NP status...our CPA, the BOD's, myself included... AND the IRS are still in the "determining" stages as to whether we (MAAST) fit into one of two different catagories. 501(c) (3) or 501(c) (7) Each and everytime there is an additional imformation request (on file), there is an answer - one that is discussed and decided amongst the BOD and answered by our CPA. It does apparently take time for this type of submission to be approved by the Government. Please note that our 2009 taxes (and all taxes from 2005 thru 2008 have already been filed, completed and done with) have already been delivered into the hands of our CPA for filing if this particular issue is troubling to you also. Tax audits are more than welcome as all receipts for expenses/income are on file and listed in our Treasurers Forum.
Unless I have missed anything here (as far as the DEA)....what else can I do for you? :)

:Timeout:
i believe you have misunderstood.i merely asked for a update as to the NPO status.no more or less.as for the DEA comment I consult in research that involves illicit drugs.try an audit each month by the DEA that requires 1/100 of a gram accuracy.
not sure as to your elaborate defense but do not "assume" I know nothing of the "work

I seriously doubt that she (our treasurer) would be one to misunderstand anything of this sort. She is very dedicated to her position here on the BOD. Here is her response to your Update Request..

In other words: We have not been approved for a 501 (c)(3) nor a 501 (c)(7) and are awaiting a response from the gov. She will update on this just as soon as we receive an answer.
We the BOD are just as anxious as yourself and many other members here on MAAST. But, again the process of getting accepted for NP does take time, effort & dedication to follow through with. I assure you, we are working our hardest to obtain a NP status and hope to have an answer for you in the near future.
Hope this clears things up for ya!

The hold up you ask???
Well, its the gov that we are waiting for. So until we get a definite response on our NP status there is nothing more we can do other than wait.

DrunkClam, your questions have been answered. This thread is so that MAAST members stay informed about our tax status. It is not for you to "play". Please move on.
