I'm looking to set up a fuge area in my sump for some macro (nutrient export).
I'm thinking about wedging some egg crate in the middle to create a section to keep the macro out of the return pumps, then put a light above.
Thoughts?
Thanks

what does your sump look like or pics, but it should work if just want cheato, I have a bare bottom fuge it has a low wall and the egg crate on top to keep the cheato out from the pump

Won't the macro go through the eggcrate? I would think you would need some acrylic or other more solid material for the walls.

That should work. I started with a converted wet/dry and it seemed good enough until I got my big sump/fuge from Ace. I immediately noticed a smaller pH swing with the bigger fuge so my advice would be to go as big as you can and of course run the lights opposite to the display tank's cycle.

I hope this helps it to what you are trying to do. It seems to be working. It's hard to tell from the pic, but there is eggcrate in there. The return pump (mag 7) is elevated to keep it from disturbing the sand bed. Also the pump is facing away the macro through a small hole in the eggcrate. As mentioned above I do not have any problems of macro getting into my display tank. To further prove it's working I have a mandarin in my tank for a month now, and he seems to be getting pods to eat. Also as you can see my uv sterilizer is routed around my sump so it doesn't hurt the pod production.

I have also used eggcrate to keep the macro in one section. It's a good idea to use pre-filters for in sump return pumps because some of the macro will get through the eggcrate...but not much.
It works though.
