View Full Version : Tropic Marin group order

Hey guys! Sorry for the delays in getting this posted up! Here's what I've got so far:

It looks like we WILL be able to get either Tropic Marin classic or Tropic Marin Pro Reef in the order -- both will count towards the total quantity ordered.

As a base rule, do understand: this is not an item that we can stick ANY vendor with holding onto without turning over -- as great of a salt as it is, it just isn't a big seller. Likewise, its expensive -- it could potentially be a lot of stock just sitting there. This means that if you're interested, the buy-in will have to occur when ordering, not when receiving (This can be arranged via PayPal, or simply paying our portion in person at Gabe's -- will be determined later :) )

Alright, now on to the meat of the order! Like I stated, we will be able to get both original and Pro Reef with the order, but I've still not gotten the pricing breakdown on Original from Gabe yet -- I will update once I have this. This is what I do have so far:

Pro Reef:

36 buckets--69.99
24 buckets--74.99
12 buckets-- 79.99

If we get less buy-in than 12, but are close (8-10 buckets total), Gabe thinks he can still bring the per-bucket price down to $84.99. Basically, if we get close to 12, but not 12 -- we'll pay 2-3 bucks less than the best price you could find on an online vendor... As soon as we break 12 buckets, we're WELL below what we could get it anywhere online :)

Now, don't quote me on this, but just judging by the typical going rate of Tropic Marin original, I would expect its breakdown to go along these lines:

36 buckets--59.99
24 buckets--64.99
12 buckets-- 69.99

Again -- this part is total assumption, Gabe will be getting me the expected costs here soon (hopefully today so we can get the ball rolling!).

So, if you're interested, chime in and state which type Tropic Marin blend you want, and how many buckets -- lets see how many we can get! :D

I'm in for 2 buckets of Pro Reef.

-Justin

I will keep the list of interested parties up to date here, within this post:

Mark me down for a bucket Pro Reef. Gonna need to buy salt before I set up the 37 anyways; may as well get it at a reduced price.

Ah crap. I just bought 2 buckets of the Pro Reef off of Dr's Foster and smith for 84.99 with only a 5.99 shipping fee. Guess if you get atleast 11 ill be the 12th to get it if the price is close to 69.99 can never have too much salt!

Alright, since we're pretty close to our minimum already, whats everyones thoughts on how to handle payment? I'm glad to be the intermediary and handle via PayPal, or we can all just individually swing by Gabe to pay... either is fine by me...

Thoughts?

If Gabe's fine with it we could just individually swing by. Otherwise you might lose out on PayPal fees.

A couple bucks won't break me -- I'd probably match the funds in my paypal with actual funds, and just use the paypal funds online over time :)

Like I said though, I can go either way -- if anyone doesn't think they could make it by, I'll act as an intermediary too -- we can take a mixed approach! :)

So we would pick up the buckets from your place? (where would that be?)

corruption
Thu, 3rd Dec 2009, 04:35 PM
Oh no, pickup would be at Gabes -- he's getting the order in, and however its paid, he'll have a list of who gets what... all we'll have to do is make the trip in to pick up.

The main reason I wanted to offer up the PayPal option was for those in a situation similar to you, Karin -- since its such a drive to make it to Gabes on an average day, I'd be glad to act as an intermediary, so you don't have to make a trip in to pay, and a separate trip to pick up..

Gabe also says, if we get all the money collected by Monday, the order will be in and ready for pickup on Friday -- just something to keep in mind for those with more immediate needs :)

Hmm, if we're going to be paying on Monday I think I will have to drop out of this Justin, buying the tank this weekend may not leave me with enough leftover for salt. We'll see when I pick up my check.

Can we just wait until we reach the 12 bucket limit? I am sure Gabe could still do it the week after?
I can call in with my cc whenever...

Ditto, lets wait until we have 12, what's the rush?

I'll call with CC once it's set.

Absolutely, there's no rush -- I'm sure the pay by Monday, receive by Friday, can be any week... correct me if I'm wrong here, Gabe :) I know Karin was gonna need salt relatively soon -- it wasn't an attempt to rush it, just an attempt to offer up what time frames we're looking at :)

Jordan, no worries, I gotcha covered.. just hit me back once you have it. I know where you live :D You're gonna need some salt mix come set-up time :)

Don't we have to see if we make it to 12 buckets before we can pay (and know the discount)?

corruption
Sat, 5th Dec 2009, 12:11 PM
At this point, we should be able to get the 12 bucket pricing without an issue -- I dunno how likely it is we'd get to the 24 bucket pricing... I'd say its probably a safe bet to pay :)

We're at 11 buckets if we count Cory -- and I'm not above buying the last bucket if we NEED to make it 12 :)

Just wanted to mention I posted a thread with some independent info/analysis on the different salts here:
http://maast.org/forums/showthread.php?t=55942&highlight=salt

I think the urchin larvae research is really the one that made me choose tropic Marin over others.
