The time has come to move our Vlamingi Tang's to another temporary home. Until our 240 is setup.

We have the means of transportation etc, but this weather is what concerns me.

Does anyone have any experience with moving fish in this cold weather?

I know the move will stress them out enough and I am worried about the temp being a stress factor as well.

Your Thoughts?

use an insulated container for the transport. if you need, i have a couple of those thick styro shipping boxes you can have. you can also get warming packs at academy (they are made for keeping hunters warm)

During the winter I move fish as if I were shipping them. Use the leg warmers or hot packs....

For example... Put fish in a sealable container inside of a large styrofoam cooler. Hot packs in between.

That's only if it is really cold out and the fish are in your trunk. Personally...if they go from your house to you car that's already heated up then i don't think there is a big deal....considering the same is true for the destination. Use coolers regardless to help stabilize temps.

What about going to your lfs and asking to borrow two of their shipment boxes? They usually have a bunch and you could return it when you are done.

Based on their size, I'd use a cooler or coolers. Take an additional cooler with ziplocks of HOT tank water, and a thermometer. If it cools down, throw in a ziplock to warm it up. Using tank water eliminates the concern about holed bags.

Hey Eve when are you moving them? I have an adapter the goes in the car light thing and then you could plug in a heater if you wanted.

I know this has prolly already been done. Here is my idea: use a large ice chest and a inverter for your car. Plug in a heater to the inverter and maybe an air pump.

Eve and I delivered the tangs to the new temp home last night. We picked up some shipping boxes from Gabe's last night (on my way home from work). Thanks to everyone for the offers and advice.

Also, thanks to Jennifer and Adam for housing our fish this long. We're sorry about tearing apart you tank to get the fish out. These fish were tough...

Also thanks to Carter for the temp home. This is what makes MAAST so great...
