de-rim a ten gallon aga tank? i was thinking of just doing the top and leaving the bottom but i k now there are alot of ppl that do this ont here ten gallons and have had a good result, anyone have any opinions on this ?

Personally, I wouldn't.

The tank was built with a rim for a reason. Rimmless tanks typically use a stronger silicone and the top edge is finished. You risk your tank pulling apart and getting cut.

JMO, but let us know how it turns out if you decide to pull it apart, lol.

I'd agree with this -- though you could reseal it with a higher grade silicon... but that seems like so much work! :) Have you seen threads where people have had long-term (read: multiple years) of success after de-rimming a 10-gallon?

The total weight of the water is ~80 lbs -- that seems like a lot to trust cheapy silicon to..

i took off the blk rim and made one out of clear plexi instead looks way better htan the blk one

People successfully take the rims off of standard 10g tanks all the time. It's alot of work, but if you're up to it, go for it.

I think it would look cool i would try it and if it breaks its a cheap tank, : )
