I am in Dubai.. doing a year or two (prob two or three) and miss my tank. I can not have a 180 gallon tank in a flat so a nano will have to do. I have looked around and the tank price itself is very cheap here, but its the rest that is OUTRAGEOUS. I could piece everything else together and just have it shipped, but I think it will end up being more expensive.

Has anyone been stuck overseas somewhere and had a tank shipped? How did it work out for you?

Finding a fish store was not the easiest, and once I did, I couldn't believe it. For rock, he keeps nothing as he says everyone just goes and gets their own from the ocean. Fish he will order, but again, he says most people just go find alot of the small fish in the ocean lagoons for saltwater tanks. It doesnt appear like keeping a saltwater aquarium has a large following here. I have found a few through the forums. But anyways, the rock and sand. This is what was suggested of me to go do ??? Little worried about this. I can see picking up a few pieces but I wonder how much bad stuff hitch hike in on the fresh rock. ?? I just am so conditioned to think this is wrong to take things from the ocean that I am having a hard time with this.

Thanks, Jill

I think that is really neat if its legal because you never know what great things you may find. I would love to go and get so of the little fish other than the damsels and molly millers that you can get from Port A.

I don't know anything about the water there, but for example the gulf coast is dirty and we can not add live rock or things of that nature directly to our tanks here in Texas.

Hopefully some more experienced reefers will chime in. I would continue doing research about the water there. You could always do it the long way and whatever live rock you get you could boil and then sun dry and start fresh. It will take about six months for it to become live rock. But you could seed it by ordering a few corals attatched to live rock already.

Just rambling here....hope I helped in some way.

Jill, I also understand being concerned about taking things from the ocean but where do you think most stores get their stock from? There are many stores that purchase from farmers who propagate and breed but unless you ask and find out you won't know.

I am going to have to get over it because I miss coming home to a tank and watching the little ecosystems working and ever changing.

Anyone who has ordered a nano in general, even if it was not overseas, how was shipping it? How secure do you think they are boxed up? I would hate to wait 4 weeks (its the holidays and apo is slow right now) and it be broke.

And if anyone is in Cedar Park, can you go by and look at my tank at Honest1? And if it doesnt look good, please tell my brother that his sister is going to be VERY mad :) Gosh, I miss my tank!

I have seen a Red Sea Max 34g shipped. It was wrapped securely to a palette. So, yeah it was secure. The internal packing was solid as well. Not sure about other brands.
