Does anyone have experience keeping Bellus (Ornate) Angelfish?
I'm having a hard time finding information on keeping pairs. Is the sexual dimorphism apparent in juveniles? And what size tank would a pair prefer, compared to a single specimen?

We have a female bellus that we got from Texreefer. She's a real beauty!
What is your tank size? I would say that the pair could do ok in upwards of 100g if it's not too heavily stocked, but best if it's a little bigger than that, say over 150g.
They do show their gender as juveniles, but can change gender much like clowns and other species. Not as much written about it as other fish like the anthias and the clown, etc. but I've seen a reference or two and Bernie's seemed like it was in the process of changing from female to male. Not sure if this was ever confirmed, but that was our suspicion at the time. Who ended up with Bernie's bellus? Steve and Cheri, maybe??

I have a 90 with not much in it. I've got a blenny, a goby, and a clarkii pair. I want something special to be the main eye catching fish in the tank. I'm thinking a female Bellus, but since I anthropomorphize everything, I'm wondering if she needs a boyfriend.

She needs a boyfriend.
Fish are odd. I can touch the can of flake food and all of my fish go psycho. I hear that fish or at least Dory fish can't remember anything past 3 seconds. One of my friends refused to ever eat another fish after he saw how smart my female tang is (TY BARRY!!!!!)....
I think all animals are more capable of complex thought than what we probably could ever perceive. Ray Allen brought up a familiar fact about how rattle snakes are stopping their rattling because they know that it attracts people that catch them.
For a snake, that is remarkable. How did it figure that out? There has to be a pretty in depth thought process and method of communication that we as humans, simply do not understand.
... maybe the "Indigenous Austrailians" have something to add here. Apparently they are shy two chromosomes which Carl Jung describes them as being more in tune with nature/animals/and the earth than we can perceive stating that the extra 2 chromosomes represent ego which is why we simply cannot wrap our brains around the concept.
I overanalyze EVERYTHING ^that^ deep. :p
Oh, and that is also the basis for the Tool song 46+2.
whaddabang hows that?

Kristy, the Bellus I had never changed to a male. Her colors did become darker than when I first got her and she remained that way until I sold her.
