Yeah, I couldn't resist!

Unbeliveable really.

Will post once in. I talked to a guy that ran the 250 hqi setting on a Raium and "it looked vary similar to radium on mag/hps hqi" No test data but the standard Lumateks have had really good reviews.

Cool. Keep us posted. I wonder how long overdriven bulbs will last (color temp etc.) relative to running at spec.

Coralvue has had dimmable ballasts for a while (400w down to about 250w):

And 250w down to 150w:

Yeah I wish I had spent a little extra and gotten the dimmable. It would make light acclimating a lot better or easier. Can't wait for the review on these though.

True Bill, but THESE run 250, 250 HQI, 400 std, and 400+!

So you can run either 250 or 400 and overdrive both too!!!!!!!!

Just FYI we tried using Lumatek's ballasts a year ago and ordered about 20 for various tanks. Out of those 20, 12 had broken in the first year, 4 fired bulbs to the wrong temperature, and they were nearly impossible to get a hold of and get replacements. I ended up going back to the wholesaler we purchased them from who took care of me and swapped them with icecaps for a minimal fee but it was an annoying ordeal.

Buyer beware on these, I thought they looked exactly like icecaps for 2/3 of the price and got what I paid for.

Shoot! We'll I hope these are better.

Have you heard anything about Galaxy ballasts John? They LOOK identical to the Lumatek.

Is Icecap going to come out with a switchable ballast?

Hopefully I'll be o.k. as I've know someone at MD that used to be an order taker and is now running the place. Still could be a big hastle though you're right.

Thanks for the heads up John.

You know icecap has that ballast in a million pieces already. :)

Galaxy is Sunlight Supply's electronic ballast brand so I would be much more comfortable with that. Sunlight is located here in America with several offices and lots of employees and I've had nothing but great things to say about their customer support.

To also note that my wholesaler was shocked when he heard how many of lumatek's ballasts had failed on me as he had not experienced that many problems with them.

Thanks again John.

Were there problems with a particular bulb brand or style (SE, DE)?
