Who took the first steps to conceptualize and create maast? Who first labored on creating the website? Just curious- I know our org emulates other reef clubs in the nation but, im very glad there are leaders like that around to bring it to our area!:lightbulb:

I know TexReefer was involved, it all started as a yahoo chat group.

Yeah, Mike (Texreefer) kind of got it going several years ago on yahoo and had the first meeting with a handful of people at a restaurant. If I remember correctly he moved away for awhile and a small group of us then worked on organizing the official club, establishing the first bylaws and such. The website as we know it today was the creation of Chris Pugh who was our first official president. It of course has been updated over the last few years with the help of others after Chris moved away for a time. Meetings started small, usually held at people's homes, sometimes with presentations/topics, sometimes just social visits. Lots of people have come and gone over the years, still a few around from the beginning. Membership continued to grow pretty fast for awhile and meetings became bigger and better over the years.

Yeah, I was a lurker on the yahoo club site until I started setting up my first saltwater tank. Would have joined this new site sooner but I think I had a hard time finding it at first.

Interesting seeing that list. Think there is one person missing though that was a big help in getting things rolling in the beginning. But it maybe due to her profile being deleted due to some trouble she caused. Oh well, like I said, lots of people have come and gone over the years.

Yup, I started the Yahoo site that eventually became MAAST. I was even involved in helping create the MAAST name. It was Chris, however that really built the website and got things going. I'm still hanging around and who knows, I may have something new to show people soon. The site went online late in the day and I was at work. by the time I got home to register there were 8 people already signed up

maybe some of you heavy hitters can pull your resources together and start some kind of south texas super reef center. it can fill the reefing needs of all of south tx and beyond. none of this petco or petsmart crap!

I started browsing maast late 2003 after A guy at Texas Tropical and Marine told me about the site. Been here ever since and the site has gone though some interesting transitions.

Yes, too bad too, he was definately the main driving force behind the maast foundation. He was a firm believer in keeping this site an educational force and structuring it accordingly. Not only was he the president, he was also the webmaster and admin. Chris will post here on occasion, just not very often.
