Well, here we go......

I lost almost all of the rest of my SPS. I still have some pieces left, and some are in recovery. One day (after I fixed my reactor prob) my tank was looking GREAT. A few days later, I started to lose SPS. I thought it was due to heat, phos, or other WQ related issues. Tested and retested, and when I was done, tested again and again. Everything seemed great again. Then I started getting hit with wicked algae growth!!!! Well, I found a tennis ball in my sump. :(

It was buried under macros and not visible. I took it out and things are seemingly better. I just changed my lighting again, so there was a ton of confusion as I thought for sure it was due to light stress.

SO, well that isn't so bad. I can regrow what I have and recoup the rest later from others.

THEN, yesterday I found my jawfish on the floor.
Somehow, it escaped a darn near inescapable tank, making it through a hole the size of a half dollar.

SO, I learned 2 lessons here and have one solution. Window screen.

I am going to cover my sump and the holes on my 45 to ensure I do not have to go through this again.

I did not lose any of my LPS, zoas, clams, fish (other than funny face), or anything else.

Reefing is bittersweet.

Out of curiosity do you have a dog and or children? If so, are you thinking thats how the tennis ball got in there?

I've got a few things I could frag as well, a few euphyllias and some leathers.

Ohhh yeah, tennis ball in the sump will get ya every time. Sorry to hear anyone have the trouble you have had. Rob has dibs on a blue digitata frag, but which ever one (got 2 frags) he doesn't pick you are welcome too. I live on bitters and blanco too and never met you or seen your tank so it would be a good reason lol.

If yours ever passing through new braunfels I could hook you up with various sps. Let me know. It would have to be about two months to make sure I got rid of the velvet though.

I am sorry :(

meh it's ok, I will fully recover with all aquacultured frags. :) Best thing about selling/trading your frags is being able to get them back. That's why I so highly encourage each other to trade frags freely, and try as hard as you can to keep them.

Oh a 6 year old darling girl. She's my stepkid, but my buddy. I know she meant no harm, she just bounced the ball and could not find it. :) Oh and no dog anymore, my mom stole it.

Oh it's ok, I expect a full recovery. Danke

they might play fetch ???? lol

I have a yellow tang that watches my every move. If I touch the fish food, she instantly starts dancing. Very cool to see.
No fetch yet, but I can work on it.

Still hanging on. Since I am seeing growth on my purdy blue mille I am assuming that all is well again.

TY! BTW, I LOVE the tires. The Pearl rides like a dreamboat. Got 'em all swapped/balanced for 20 bucks!

Sorry to hear about the downfall. I have 3 kids and I worry about them doing something to the tank. My daughter used to dump an entire can of dry fish food in my freshwater "cause they looked sad and hungry". When i changed to saltwater, I pretty much erect a security alarm around it to keep them from doing anything but looking thru the glass.

Oh she knows better now. It was a learning experience. :) Good news is that I still have enough to recover. Diagnosis is often the hardest part in reefkeeping.

Erik - By "dupes" I think he meant duplicates...

Sorry to hear things have been so rough lately with the tank. Hang in there and get ready for an upswing! (At least you now sort of know what the problem was...) This hobby is such a roller coaster ride and the downs are SO BAD! -Kristy
