Plumbing Question

I am putting a union valve on my external dart pump. Does it matter which way the union valve is placed? Which side should the seal be on?

It shouldn't make that big of difference unless your union is one I've never seen before. The oring can be moved to either side on some unions and seats in the opposing gap so it wouldn't matter as the pressure on it would/could be the same. If it should be placed a certain way it shoudl be marked though, like on pressure relief valves.
