I have just started a reef tank. I have mollies and 2 blue crabs in it just to get it through the cycle. So far everything is looking good except for the ph. It is at 7.8 which is acceptable but I would like to get it to about 8.2. I want to raise it by using something more permanent than just a buffer such as baking soda. Any suggestions!?

I'm not as cunning with chemistry as alot of people on here, but i would say give it time. No need adding contaminants until your tank is stable. Ph is driven up by living organisms in your tank and a new tank won't have as a much. Also rem. Ph can swing and give you get diff. readings depending on the time of day.

I really like this article here:

(hope it's not against rules since it's an outside link)
When are you measuring it?
I have a pinpoint pH meter and get a digital reading all the time. First thing in the morning it's down to 7.8 and then it goes up throughout the day.
