Can anyone offer a realistic review of this skimmer on a 20 gallon mixed tank?

I've had it on a 75 gallon for a few years now. I don't know if it's getting the job done, but more so I've never been a heavy feeder. I don't have water quality issues either way. It pulls out junk, just don't have anything to compare it to. I think it would be more than enough on a 20 gallon though.

Thanks for that. Ive been reading where these things can be prone to overflowing due to sensitive adjustment points, have you had any issues? Got a pic of yours in operation?

I had one on a 120 for 2 years and loved it after a made some mods. I added a larger pump and airline hosing with a control valve. It pulled dark skimmate for me regularly...but I had to re-adjust it every time I turned the pump off.

I liked it and it worked great for me aside for re-adjusting it once a week.

The CSS's are VERY sensitive to water level fluctuation. And sometimes, they will still overflow even if the water level stays perfectly consistant. Other than that IMO they are very good skimmers for the money. However, a 125 on a 20g probably isn't your best option. I'm pretty sure the pump would cause you some serious heat issues.

Fwiw, I've used the 125 and the 65 and IMO the 65 would be more than adequate for your tank.

For a little more coin you could go with either a Tunze 9002 or a Sapphire Aquatics skimmer.

I'm currently using a 9002 on my 20g, but I have a Sapphire in the mail. I just wanted to compare the two and will be selling which ever one I end up not using. It appears as though Sapphire has really stepped up their game and may actually be better than the Tunze now. We shall see...

I have an Sapphire Aquatics skimmer that I got from another member and I LOVE IT! Believe it or not I have it on my 144gal and it pulls nasty dark sludge out daily....definitely wasn't made for a large tank (it's small and made for a nano) but I have it on there and it rocks!!! I love that skimmer.

Alex bought it at TMAC and never used it, I got it from him in a trade. I really do love it, I can't believe the job this little thing does. Can't imagine what a larger one could do!

I have it running in my sump.

I have this one: (Saphire BC29)

Looks nice, I like that it uses a needle wheel pump. Do they have a hang on model?
