I am drip acclimating some new corals I got today and this little guy was on them.
It looks like a little Brittle Star to me but I don't know much about these kind of critters (I only knew that GSEclipse's little Asterinas sold online 6 for 20 bucks because I actually wanted to buy some... :blushing:)
So is it a little brittle star and can I keep it? Or is there something dangerous about it?

You've got the better looking variety. Much cooler looking than the plain white/gray variety in my tank for the longest time. Definitely a keeper.

That's not an asterina star. They are evil. The mini brittle star you have is a good star.

I read up a little bit about them on wetweb and apparently these are different from big brittles all together and probably never will get much bigger than an inch or two.
Now I am kind of disappointed I don't have more (no reproduction).
Anybody want to sell me a handful of mini brittle stars?

back in FL for one of my classes we use to go to the beach and bring a shovel and dig about 18 inch's down and filter out the sand after doing this you end up with 100's of these guys

If you need some Chaeto, I can give you some with a bunch of mini brittle stars in it.

I grow cheato like nobody's business! I could bale it or knit sweaters with it for everybody on the board with how much I grow. LOL.
However I would take you up on your offer if your chaeto houses cute little brittle stars.
In exchange I can offer you:
- immense gratitute
- name the first newborn star after you
- money
- a small frag of Superorange Fiji Zoas. No fancy name with those but you can call them Fiji Mamas if you're into names ;)

Hey Jack, there's a dentist on the east side of 281 that has what looks like a huge mini brittle star. These are the same ones that poke one or two arms out of the small caves and holes in LR to look for food right? If so, the dentist guy has one that its arm must be a good 8" and hangs out of a crevice much in the same fashion as those others. I'm talking about the brown and whited banded ones, not the white ones.

Where is he at? I needed a good reason to go get my teeth cleaned.
I still need to come by and check out your tank and vice versa.

I keep looking for an excuse to go over.
He does my son's braces on bulverde road, right next to that vet clinic that had that shooting over the summer. Bulverde and Evans.

I have the big brother of this guy. Looks exactly the same(colorwise) but is about 10" across. Creepy as heck when I move him around, those arms feel weird.
