Anyone tried breeding peppermint shrimp?

Hey, there!

Has anyone around here tried breeding peppermint shrimp? I've got about a dozen in my reef tank from this summer's Port A trip, and part of why I brought them home was to try and raise some babies. However, three months later, and I've not noticed any fry, or even any egg-bearing adults. I've spent some time digging around on MOFIB, but that only helped a little. Does anyone have the experience to tell me what to look for and when?

i know that joe31's peps breed in his tank but i know he doesnt do anything special for them it just happens

I could agree that Ross & I dont do anything special to our current 75 gal temp tank but almost half of the peps we have in there have eggs. :)

LOL....thats funny...mine had eggs that hatched last nite....I wasnt ready for it....my clowns, anemone, and corals loved it!!!.....I wasn't trying to spawn them....but I noticed eggs several days earlier.....It was really cool to see, lucky I was there checking out all the tanks....My girlfriend actually commented on the shrimp as it was walking all over the LR....and then she darted to the surface near the koralia nano and "flicked" and shot back down into the LR....there were 100's, maybe a couple of thousand of larvae all over.....The clowns immediately went to town on them......

Part of my problem is that I know I have about a dozen peps in there, but I can only see three or four of them during the day. Around what time do yours typically release their larvae? Does the presence of LED moonlights affect them in any way?

I was about 10:30 at nite...about 15 minutes before my actinics go off....I run about 10 hr of light and 14 of dark w/ LED moonlights

So by blind, stupid luck, I went and looked at my tank around midnight Saturday night. I saw a peppermint shrimp walking along the bottom, but acting differently than usual. I grabbed a flashlight, and sure enough, the shrimp was carrying eggs. She walked back and forth across the tank a couple of times before swimming up to the surface and releasing the eggs. There was just this explosion of larvae! I couldn't believe how many there were. Unfortunately, with the circulation system going full-bore and me being completely unprepared, I didn't get a chance to try and collect any of the larvae, but it's nice to know the shrimp are busy making shrimplets.

my females get prego in my 10g all the time, along with my pistol shrimp. the corals have enough food that i dont have to feed them

Funny I stumbled on this post, just yesterday we returned from a trip to Dallas and my wife asked me if I noticed the shrimp looking things in the overflow. Sure enough they are baby shrimp. I noticed one of the peppermint shrimp had eggs a few months back. I wonder if I can just raise them in there? The foam traps them and left over food goes in there.
