I know aggressive corals shouldn't be placed in close proximity of each other and if one's sweeper tentacles touch another coral that coral can get stung to death. But what if there is enough space so the polyps don't get stung but the other corals tentacles get stung? Will they sting each others tentacles to death?

Don't know the exact answer to that, but from experience, my lps corals remained fine while this happened....for a while.

Then the favia's sweeper tentacles increased in length and it could finally touch the other coral's tissue.

Ah, Coral Chess.

I guess you'll have to play and find out!

What exact corals are you talking about?

not anything in particular yet. Just aggressive corals. Maybe like a galaxia and a frogspawn? or galaxia and a hammer?

I've placed a GSP rock, Galaxia, and Devils hand in that order close by. The only one I'd really worry about is the hand because of current flow. However, it doesn't appear that the galaxia has been sending out the long tentacles that it used to...

I turned on one of the lights for this picture, all three look like they're sleeping even though the devil's hand has its polyps out. You can see that I've left enough space between it and the galaxia should it start sending out the sweeper tentacles. I think at one point they were reaching out about two to three inches. Now it doesn't send anything out at all, perhaps due to increased lighting and more food in the water column... or it has just become lazy...

Richard's (formerly of CB Pets) Rule #1 of Coral Wars:

In a battle between 2 corals, the one of lesser value always wins.

That is so true bstreep! I'll be sure to space them out accordingly. Thanks for the help. :)
