It seems there has been debate on many different salts out there and now it seems that many companies out there are pushing out new salts. Many are now doing them "in house" Im really excited about this maybe it will mean better consistency thoughout different batches, ESV is even doing a 4 part salt mix Im guessing this is for the advanced but im sure if you mix your own salt you cant go wrong. Brightwells has a new one as well Im going to pick up a batch of this and try it out. seachem is another with a new salt coming out soon. Many companies claim their salt as being magic and will dramatically change your reef setup maybe now it will be closer to the truth.

Gabe's getting the Brightwell in, or already has. Look on their forum.

Side note, and I'm probably wrong, but I'm betting a lot of these salts are exactly the same, with minor variations.

I've never had a problem with IO, but recently switched to the Red Sea Pro and things seem to "like" it better. Nothing scientific.

These salts sound like a good concept (though tedious), but what happens if you lose a container to contamination or moisture gets in and clumps a bucket up? Do you have to buy the entire 4 parts again, or will they be sold at cheaper individual prices as well?

Does your red sea mix up to approx. 1/2 cup per gallon? I tried the small (60 gal) bucket once. I only got about 30 gallons out of it. Seemed like too expensive to only get half the SW than they advertised.

++ on the Red Sea Pro. I know that it mixes up with a higher dkh and calcium level than IO. I've usually get within 10 gals of the advertised gallon amount vs. actual amount of h2o mixed.

Back on topic, I'd be curious to see actual results from these new brands.

I just started using Red Sea Pro salt about 2 months ago and I noticed a drastic increase in polyp extension and everything seems so much fuller and happier. Its nice not having to dose anything with this mix, at least in my 50g mixed reef. A little more expensive yes but I think its well worth it. When this bucket is out though I might try that Brightwells mix, it looks good, but we'll see.

Oh yea, and i use 2 cups per 4 gallons, so yes 1/2 per gallon will make it about 1.024. I usually add a little more to adjust it to 1.025ish but not much more at all.

What's really amazing about each of the new salts is that each one is better than all the others!

4 parts? Sounds complicated!
I have used Oceanic for awhile and liked it better than Instant Ocean but the precipipitation is so bad I am now switching to Reef Crystals (anothr IO product)
So why does the new one have to be in separate parts?

Yes there are so many new salts coming out, I'm looking forward to B-ionic's salt. For my red sea pro I use a 16oz cup for every 10g to get me at 1.024-1.023. Me personaly I think reef crystals is right up there with red sea, also it is a little cheaper for those not willing to get expensive to quickly.
