ok we are going to try this again. it will be through a different company and at different prices.

we are going to start this group buy today and continue until sunday the 11th at midnight. all orders must be in by then, as the order will be sent in on monday the 12th, and pumps will arrive on wednesday the 14th.

some members had requested info on pumps other than the mp40w, so we will include all pump models in this order.

i am unable to post the discounted prices for the pumps, but i can say that in order to get to the lowest price point, we need a minimum of 10 on each model.

for those of you who have not participated in this type of purchase-here are the specifics: interested members will contact me via pm to request price, if acceptable they will paypal the money to group buy coordinator and i will place full order. the company will then ship vortechs to me and i will deliver free of charge to s.a. and austin.

if you are interested in getting a new vortech pm me soon to get the prices and get your order in.

i dont know if the pricing is the best that we could get .... i mean people that i know have personally got it at a lower price than what yall are getting it ... and thats that they were not doing a group buy ....

if you look at river city they had them on sale for 319$ im sure if we talked to them and said were going to be getting 10 of them that they could make us a deal some what like that ( who knows)

just my .02 im interested but honestly i dont think will get 10 people in 5 days

gs, your information is correct but also very misleading.

i know the person you are speaking of and believe me his 'deal' will not be repeated by any company anytime soon.

river city happened to have that sale in order to get people in the door. i can assure you, and you can verify with any sponsor willing to talk to you, that if they sold them for that then they made absolutely no money on them. it was a marketing gimmick to sell other items. you are welcome to try and get them to do it again...good luck.

and remember that we are trying to keep these businesses running, this 'champagne taste...beer budget' mentality is what keeps maast from benefiting from some pretty awesome deals that other clubs are enjoying...trying to acquire them for below wholesale is ridiculous. if you know the product, then you know the price. and the discount we are getting is pretty standard for gb's across the forums.

in addition to what alex said they had the company who provieds the vortechs there and THEY brought them so RCA really just had a great one time deal because the supplier was willing to bring MASSIVE amounts of there stock to sell an the supplier made money that day.

there has been alot of interest but people need more time to gather money, so this group buy has been postponed.

get you money together and we will be restarting this group buy the second week in november.

So is this with / through a MAAST sponsor?

We got a really good price on our Vortechs through an online vendor just by asking customer service what is the best price they could offer it for. I have hesitated to share the specifics on these forums because this vendor is not a sponsor.

no sorry not enough interest. and too many people apparently unfamiliar with the products price point. we needed a minimum of 10 to get the best price, and i only got committments for 6. boo.

actually eve started the first one with gabe's, but the price was higher. so i made a deal to get them cheaper. but we still couldn't get it going. if you are really interested i think we can get another GB going in jan. with a cut-off at the end of the month [tax time]. i figure people with have more money to spend. they are expensive pumps, even with discounts, so timing is proving to be very important.

That does sound like good timing. I'll keep an eye on updates.
If I find one used on RC I would get it, otherwise I would be interested in the group buy early next year. Thanks! TB Aquatics has them for 375 shipped new too (not posted).

yeah i think most members on this forum have the larger tanks so we will try and keep it to the mp40's.

I maybe interested in getting a MP10. I have been looking at these vortechs and seeing them in action I think they are defiantly worth it. One of these would replace all my koralias and then sum. Tax time would be the best time. Please let me know if you are allowing MP10 in on the buy and if so how much. Thanks.

Ok, we have bought three Vortechs now (two of the mp40s for the big tank and a mp20 for the small tank) from an online vendor and have had excellent service. I highly recommend this product, and we have been VERY happy with the amount of flow that it gives our tanks. Probably the biggest selling point for me was that the electrical motor is outside the water (so less heat and less stray voltage potential) but also it really appeals to me to have fewer electrical items plugged in.

My issue is that this vendor is not a sponsor and therefore I have not openly plugged his business on this forum. HOWEVER, I have discussed sponsorship with him and he is interested but needs more information, which I will need to get ASAP from the BOD. For what it is worth, I did ask around with several of the sponsors that we frequent before we made our Vortech purchases and they all basically told us the same thing, that they cannot get much of a deal on these pumps and therefore cannot offer much of a discount.

He is offering a very good price, shipping included, for your choice of the mp40 gen2, mp 20, or mp10. He is also willing to offer an even better price if we can get a quantity of 12 or more of the mp40s and mp20s (not including the mp10 toward the quantity of 12).

I would prefer not to openly post the specifics of the vendor or his price offered, which is NOT how I would usually do a group order on this forum. I will correspond with him about sponsorship and keep a tally of who is looking to buy what quantity of which pump while we as a group make a decision about what we want to do.

Please feel free to contact me by pm if you want more information in order to make your decision about how many you are looking to buy.

Kristy,

It's not required that a group order be done with a sponsor. For instance, we occasionally do group orders for frozen food or salt at Dr F & S.

Kristy,

Sure, I understand that it is not a MAAST rule, but I would say that it is my personal position that I would prefer not to promote non-sponsors. This is also a delicate issue at the moment for numerous reasons, so I would hesitate to go into too much detail in an open public forum. I have gotten a good bit of feedback from several members already.

When we were in a position looking to buy Vortechs, which were by far the biggest purchase we've made in this hobby, we tried to ask around for a good deal with our LFS sponsors before making a purchase decision. Everyone needs to be educated consumers who decide for themselves where their purchasing dollars go (especially in this economy) and we always try to give our business to the LFS who are available to us day-in and day-out for our little emergencies.

Mike and I have already purchased ours and are very happy with them. I was just trying to be helpful to others looking for a great product, as this group order had appeared to stall out and not be happening.

I am going to step out of this thread at this point and can continue by pm if anyone wishes for further explanation, discussion.

I'm pretty confused by all the whispering... same thing happened last time. Not sure I want to know what's going on either.

It seems to me that it's in our best interest to keep things in the open, not the other way around. This also keeps competitive prices on these already over priced pumps that no one can seem to make a profit off of on retail.

Kind of reminds me of Acans.

I could be misinterpreting everything though. Thanks for doing all the leg work Kristy, sorry it didn't work out for some of us.

I don't think it was a case of whispering or hiding anything. I was under the impression it was out of respect for our sponsors. If they cannot match the price then they cannot match it. I am sure the profit is slim on these anyway - or slim for the stores selling them anyway. I agree with trying to find a balance of making my wallet happy and keeping the many great Vendors that sponsor us in business. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I am still interested in the group buy and will have to see what deals and what the price will be when the time comes

I think Kristy's supplier would be a great source either way:
for personal purchase or for group purchase

I hope the supplier will agree to perhaps become a sponsor or whatever delicate issues are being considered will be resolved.

sorry guys I'm out. I already got my Vortechs. I really wanted them and the personal purchase price was only $5 more than the group buy price (individually delivered) so I went ahead and ordered.
Couldn't be happier. Hope everyone who wants one gets one :)
