I thought I would share with you my new tank and the progress so far. I initially thought I would do a 10 gallon nano but the stand I bought was for a 20 gallon which they said was for 10 gallon. After being made fun of (well the tank), I purchased a 20 gallon high. I am really liking the look of it so far. I purchased 20 lbs of sand from a fellow reefer to get it started. I have also purchased about 2 lbs of live sand from Aquarium Masters. The live sand from AM included about 4 or 5 snails. This is my current setup.

-20 gallon High - Measures 24" X17"X13
-50 watt Stealth heater
-Aquaclear 30. I plan on making this a refugium later :)
-Nova Extreme 4 bulb 96 watt T5ho
-Nano Koralia (I have another one on the way)
-20 lbs of Caribsea and 2 lbs of live

All comments are welcome. No Mom jokes please...LOL
Thanks for viewing
I guess this is my build thread. I will update it as I go.

Glad to see youve got things up and running. Any plans to turn that 10 into a sump, just curious. If you need any help with anything let me know. And I will hit you up when I get some frags ready for ya.

It is actually blue and black sand. I hate it. But my wife was like if you are going to start this hobby I want blue sand. So I had to give in. When I get my 75 I will have white sand.

Squiers I thought about that but it will not fit in the stand. I guess it will be used for an emergency or quarantine tank. I will keep you posted on the status of the tank and when I think it is ready for coral. Thanks.

I have bought some zoa frags from GCReef. I also bought a superman mushroom frag. I plan on putting some clowns in there. Maybe a pearly jawfish. I want a fire shrimp. I will add more softies later like blue anthelia, green colt, pulsing xenia. I also will put some kryptonite candy canes in there. We'll see how it goes. Any suggestions let me know.

Wow, thats pretty crazy. Did you get him out of there or are you going to let the coral eat him? I imagine it will take the coral a few days to digest that much food.

I got him out of there. Too disturbing for the kids. I call him a dumb fish. Get his nose too close to the fire.

I'm still having fun with this tank. I was picking nudis off the zoas a few nights ago. I feel like I am hunting with my tweasers in hand looking for them. My rocks are turning a nice bright green. I finally got my PH up to about 8.3. I am seeing some hair algae but I managing my snails pretty good. As was said in another post they work for me right? I adopted 3 tessellated blennies from Gcreef. I love watching these guys stare at me. My 4 year old is telling them to swim...:) I love this hobby. It can be very relaxing.

Nices zoas....rare and normally hard to find... I have these....Got them from Reefs2u when they were B&B. They are Deepwater Japanese Zoas. They look sweet under any type of lighting and especially awesome under actinics.

Is the rock glued/epoxied together?

It is not glued at all. I tried to just make an arch. I will post some new pics. I changed it up a little so I could add coral to the sides.

The new rock work really makes the tank shine. The corals are looking good too; Did that murderous candy cane come from GCReef? It looks like the one I was eying when my brother, his wife, and I were all up there.

Anyway, keep the pics coming as it grows out.

Diego! I promise I'm working on those frags for you, as soon as I move I'm sure I will have a lot of good stuff that I will be wanting to trade. Plus I will probably be needing some help once the move comes, so if you would be willing to help, I will let you know when the move is. Also, it was good to see you and everyone else again at the meeting a week ago!

Alright man, I will let you know. We put a bid on a house on Friday and are waiting to hear if it was accepted or not. Once everything is finalized I will start planning the tank move since that will be the hardest part! Man I am not looking forward to that! I just know some of my acro's are going to break, but I guess thats how it goes. If we get the new place the tank will be set up for at least 3 yrs. so that will make for a lot of growth!!! Plus I'm thinking this will give me a good excuse to frag some stuff for the frag exchange so I can get some new stuff and provide other MAAST members with some of the unique corals that I have.
