i found this awesome trigger at the lfs. i am pretty sure it is a sub-adult niger trigger, still developing the green mouth. he is a beauty and full of character. whe you go up to the tank, he starts 'dancing' and spits water. lol. just too cool. my question is...can i place him in my reef tank. he has a tiny mouth and i really don't care if he takes out the inverts, those are cheap to replace. i want to know if he is coral friendly. any experiences, suggestions, knowledge would be helpful...thanks.

most triggers and i mean MOST are NOT coral friendly in the wild they pick at the coral all the time. he would cause havoc on your corals.

i have had niger triggers in two different reef tanks with no problems except for a little sand disruption. didnt even have trouble with them picking on clams.
**disclaimer - all fish are different, that is just my experience

If you would really like to get a trigger for your reef tank I would look into getting a blue jaw trigger. They seem to be the least "coral" aggressive and I know of several people who have had them with good success. Plus I have also heard of several people housing a male and female and actually getting them to breed if thats your sort of thing!

Hey Alex,
Ross & I had a Niger Trigger in our 125 setup. With out any problems.. He was a juvenile when we got him.. The only thing he did was keep the cleaner shrimp to himself! lol... Otherwise he was great...
