We are in the process of getting a new tank and breaking down our 240gal. We will leave the tank running with live rock and sand until we receive our new tank and have not had any majors problems with our rock. The only problem we have had is some red slime here recently. During the transfer we will be placing about 250-300lbs of live rock in about 5 32gal trash cans with power heads during this change.
Here is my question - Should we cure or cook this live rock during this time? Should I have light on the rock?
Also let me add, once we have the new tank set up, we will leave it with live rock and live sand only for about 4-6 months.

If you aren't having any problems with it, you shouldn't need to cook it. Depending on how long it's in the cans, doing water changes should keep it "fresh" to the point of not needing to recure it.

I would just leave it with power heads and NO light. Keeping the light out will help control some of that slime algae.

If you don't have any pests on it, just keep it.

ScorpiNO - We are getting the same size 96x24x24.
Bill - No pests that we know of.
So from what we read, just put in the 32gal brutte cans with individual powerheads and No light... Thanks Everyone for all your help...

Eve told me she replied to this thread the other day. Put the rock in the Brutte cans on Sun. Again, thanks for your help.
