ok so my tank has been filled for a day and half, it has the sand from my 2 other tanks right now im finishing makin enough water to get the fuge running, heres my problem ,now that its settled i noticed hundreds of dead pods the big roach looking ones all over the sand bed, im about to test parms, will update in a bit, is this tank goin to cycle all over again, also im sure my fish and coral will fine in the tub so should i prepare to keep there longer, fish are eating coral fully open and happy. when the fuge is full and i start it up im goin to put a bunch of poly to help clean it out and change it often. alo clean up crew is workin overtime all inverts fine

i would siphon as many out as possible and make sure your salinity and other parameters are ok. be sure to run some carbon to help clean up the water, and maybe some phosban too - no telling what you stirred up when you moved the sand.

That would happen anytime you disbrupt the sand bed, in your case 2 sand beds.I would take a little longer to place livestocks and corals in. Need to run alot of carbon and do some water and test, test test. Do water change in the holding tank too...keep us update.

Big roach... lol. Can you snap a quick pic? I'm curious.

+1 I couldn't have said it better myself.

Your best resource is your eyes. Keep an eye on your critters.

KEEP AIR ON YOUR FISH AND CORALS OR THEY WILL DIE!!!! Has the fuge's sandbed been disrupted? If not get it up and running asap. How long have your fish and corals been without aeration? AERATE your tank like mad. Keep your PH up as Ammonia is more toxic at a lower PH. The pods could have gotten crushed with all of the moving. If you have a large filter sock (small micron/filterfloss) you could try and flush some extra water through one to help filter the excess dead out as well as any detritus. Keep posting.

put it in a filtersock in the tank in an area of flow. I would put some air on your fish, how many and what in what sized tub?

the temp on the rubermades can change alot fast than in your system,in other words be sure that you keep a close eye on that temp in the tub.

+100 on that carbon

How long are you planning on having your fish in the tub?

I'd siphon or net out as much of the dead stuff as you can. Run your skimmer wet.

And, as Erik said, keep an eye on that tub!

Everytime I move or start a new tank that has old sand I dump a bottle of bio spira or Jason (aquarium design) has something like it he gave me to get it going fast and I have never had a spike since using those. On the 3 & 4 day is when i would do a water change those are the days that a tank uasual spike. As for your fish they should be ok mine were in a smaller container for 2 week waiting for a tank to go in to get here. I had 7 fish I gave them live rock and a korilla. I even put a light on it for them. I have a skimmer you can borrow until you find one you want I wont be using it anytime soon so let me know if you want to use it.

Just check the levels repeatedly. As long as you got alot of detritus out, and your levels are a-ok I would say you're good. Just keep an eye out and have plenty of water available.

if my levels stay ok , how many days should I wait till it's safe to move stuff in, how many consecutive days of good parms test should I wait

carbon can raise your PH quickly if too much is added depending on the type used, so make sure you are not over zealous with it.

Here's a really good read about carbon:

Don't know how to do that little Quote box, but ScorpiNo posted "Keep your PH up as Ammonia is more toxic at a lower PH". BACKWARDS. pH is the driving force pushing the ammonia/ammonium equilibrium back and forth. Higher the pH, any ammonia present will be shifted toward the toxic free ammonia as a precentage of total ammonia. This is the main reason marine aquariums take longer to populate and why they used to take longer to establish and cycle.

If your levels are ok now, slowly start to move rock and livestock. If they look fine the next day, move your corals. Slowly reacclimate everything to your lighting over the period of a week and you should be ok. Just keep making water!
