Sun, 30th Aug 2009, 03:42 PM
so ive got a new tank.
It took about 2 weeks to get to the shop and the same day to drill and build an overflow.
I had already built the stand while waiting to get the tank. So all I had to do was get it home and get it running.
I filled it up yesterday and got it running.

This is what it looked like at the shop when I first received it in.

I had already had the sump, pump, and skimmer

ReefCube
Fri, 4th Sep 2009, 07:30 AM
do you have any problems with your sand being kicked around by the flow

clone
Fri, 4th Sep 2009, 02:26 PM
thanks guys.

my g/f actually did the scape, with my help of course but that was the goal,to give the fish as much space as we could give'em.

i have 1 vt at 100% and the other at 80% and no sand storms yet.
the reason why i had got half and half was for that reason,so the the crushed coral would weigh down the sea floor.

ok UPDATE

So for the past two weeks ive had a hair algae problem.
So I started adding MB7 again.
Added Phosban and Carbon in a reactor.
Did a water change monday night while the Colts were on.
The good thing is thats its not growing anymore and starting to white out.

Im turning off the skimmer at night to dose the MB7, and strating it back up every morning.

My Lavender tang is just loving the flow, drifting around, not even swimming unless she wants to graze on something.

Ph-8.3day
Ph-8.1 - 8.2morning (before i leave for work 6:45am)
Salt-1.026

oh and this morning woke up a 2am to a sucking noise, turs out a zebra snail was trying to go down the drain.
I tryed to pull it out of the bulk head but my fingers were to big, so I had to get a spoon and scoop it out.

clone
Wed, 23rd Sep 2009, 06:42 PM
yeah ill do that so wat should i put it in with??

just get a plastic cup,and after you rinse the crushed coral, put the cup rigth side up into the tank all the way to the bottom and poor it out.Dont mix it, it'll mix itself.

Why did you go with 2 vtec's? Is it because it is a 4ft tank? Which vtecs did you get?

im using2 mp40w's , I got my first one about 6 months ago and loved it. So when I was setting up this I knew that just the 1 alone would be able to take care of the tank itself, but since ima flow freak I had to have one more.
It was a good choice to get another one because I have them running in 2 different modes and it creates some nice random flow. If you ever do own a vortech you will know that one is just not enougth.
Its like when someone has a great amount of power, all that person wants to do is get more power.
V-TEC= vearible timing emision control= its a type of head on a motor.

I really miss my old teg too, maybe i'll start a project car some time soon. I still have everything I need to boost a B-series engine

i am feeling the same. dont worry it will pass. I am also taking it much slower because i realized how much of my funds were being dumped into my tank. I have too many better things to spend my money especially in this economy. I stepped back and was wondering why i spent $60 on a fish that died and why i spent $40 on a coral. I love high end stuff but I really needed to slow down. I could have 3 other hobbies and spend less money than this one. not to put down this hobby but as we all know it is expensive! haha

kkiel02
Sat, 2nd Oct 2010, 11:17 PM
I actually went cheaper coming into this hobby, used to rockcrawl, and if you werent breaking you werent going big enough. lol Probably one of the few hobbies that might be more expensive.

What I love most about this hobby is- it is always changing. I went from a beginning reef tank(softies), to a LPS craze, to a SPS faze now kind of back to LPS including mainly chalices but still encrusting montis.

There are just so many different routes you can take, it is what has kept me going on for this long, I am usually a.d.d. with hobbies.
Plus as I am sure you are aware of- automation makes this hobby alot less stressful. I try to keep corals that allow me flexibility. I like to travel but dont think twice about leaving my tank unattended for 3-4 days. 5 I will get a tank sitter. :)
