hi, i dont have a camera nearby but i have what looked like an algae bloom and this stuff pops up in hours. they are small brown flakes that cover the sand bed, rocks and the glass. when you look closely, each of these flakes are shaped like a bat or the wu-tang symbol with a tiny red dot on its head. there about 1/16th of an inch small and are everywhere. please help identify these bugs, im worried because they appeared about 6 months ago and will not go away. they dont seem to harm anything but my LPS are getting sick all of the sudden. and my clam died. please help, thanks

Flatworms or AEFW? Check out the sticky at the top of the "General Reefkeeping Discussion " forum here:

Maybe just regular flatworms - which are somewhat harmless. I had a tank-full last year. Sixline took care of it, but it took a while.

Some folks have successfully used Flatworm Exit on them. HOWEVER, if you have a large infestation, you can crash a tank by killing off so many at one time.

Is there any reason you couldn't add a sixline wrasse to your tank?

no reason at all, i had no idea sixline would help.
i do have them pretty badly and im pretty sure they breed in my tank because i have not been running my skimmer for the last 6 months and the wrong nutrients are present in high levels....even though all test results from water changes appear to be good.

Lesson learned.... skimmer is good, always use one even though everything LOOKS fine with out it.

thanks Bill

its kinda fuzzy cotton like.

Sounds like sponge growth to me. Normal and benefitial. I have all kinds of colors and shapes and textures growing...mostly in areas that don't get direct light.

Joel....sorry about the worms...that stinks! Is it in the new tank too? Nevermind...I just saw this was an older thread.

Bugroago...next time start a new thread. Thanks.
