Ok so i am going to be setting up a 12g nano soon. I was looking at running the JBJ Viper 70watt hailde on it. However after reading reviews about how dim etc. the light was. one review mentioned running the 150w for anything over 10g. So now i am looking at the JBJ viper 150w deluxe version with fan leds etc. I figured with the fan heat shouldn't be an issue (i hope). Any info on somebody running this light will help. Also any suggestions for another CLAMP ON or possibly pendant that is priced around the 250 range will be helpful. i need pros and cons if possible. Or should i just stick with the 150w deluxe.

hey ballard, when i had the tank i used a 70w sunpod and never had heat issues. i think that a 150w would be both too much light for that little tank and cause heat issues. that is going to be over 10w per gallon. and the tank is very shallow. a 70 watter would provide more than enough penetration. jmho based on my experience with the tank.

Thanks agg you think they k2 clamp on will work fine its a 70w but i will look at the sunpod for sure.

edit...sunpod don't make a 70w fixture anymore :( any others or will the jbj work i wonder heard some bad reviews.

The 70w viper will probably work perfectly for you... really depends much more on the dimensions of the tank than the gallons. What is the tank's depth?

We ran a 70w light over our 10g hex and it lit it up beautifully. When we upgraded that to a 20g hex, we had a tank depth of about 20" and then needed to go up to 150w clip on light. I suspect the 12g nano is not as deep as our 10g hex was and would work out great with the viper 70w.

if i remember correctly the tank is like 12-13 inches deep. pretty shallow.

if you want to try it on the cheap, i got a spot you can buy a new 150w mh for less than 100 bucks. it's not going to be a geisemann, but it will work on that tank. the reflector is not top of the line, but that might work out in your favor due to the shallow depth.
