looking to mod my 29g bio cube light. Nothing is growing!! Well except for glass anenomies. I dont want to change out my hood. I was thinking about a low watt MH but dont want a fish fry on my hands. Does anyone have any ideas?

Check out nanotuners.com to get some ideas. They sell replacement light hoods with upgraded lighting or components that you can use to DIY.

FWIW, we have a clip-on 150w mh over our 20g hex and there's no fish fry!

the 29g tank(nano thread "my biocube collection") i have with the t5 light has only had it like a month, prior to that was all stock lights for over a yr with the same coral,how often do you do water changes, how much, and do u use ro/di, but most of all patience is key this is hoby is slow and i think thats the best part

i have a 250 w MH with 130 w of supplemental actinics....so 380 w...on a 37

me personally t-5 are the way to go but MH from 150-250 watt is also good. Maybe both to the blue effect with the t-5.

I have a 29g oceanic biocube and when it was time to change out the lights I stayed with the pcs. My only change was replacing the 10k with a 50/50. So now it has one actinic and one 50/50. The color is great and I think the corals like it too.

I got a 70w on my 12g no temp rise freaking awesome, 14k color too. so i am sure a 150 will be fine for the 29.

When I had my previous BC 29 with stock lighting my corals grew like crazy. It has to be water chemistry or maybe flow causing your corals not to grow. Keep in mind you do need to change PC bulbs every 5-6 months to keep good output.

I just purchased another BC 29 and will stick with stock lighting again.
