Just curious, what are some side effects of high MG levels? (+1500mg/l)

Sorry, I meant ppm not mg/l.

The only thing that I have been able to read is that the KH tends to be reduced at an accelerated rate, but nothing else. To be completely honest, I dont have a magnesium test and dose intermittenly as my CA/ KH levels start to sway. I know that MG doesnt need to be dosed often and I really should just buy a test, but just wanted to get a concensus on what high MG levels can lead to...

I'm running almost 2000 meq/L on a tank right now. It's for bryopsis removal.

Ph has lowered a bit to 7.8-7.9 night/day. dkh has also lowered from 8 to 6. Not sure in Ca, but I am still getting corraline algea on the glass. Tank is fairly empty except green bta and host occ. clown, yellow polyps, open brain, a few mushroom corals.

The only casualty (so far) has been a cleaner shrimp and that could have been because of high nitrate levels.

I'm pretty sure a fully stocked tank may lose a few corals with these high mg levels due to the alk and ph drops. But, you could probably use buffers to counteract this. Don't know, I'm not dosing anything on my tank right now other than kents mg.

I have some ph buffer and actively dose CA and KH. I guess high MG doesnt really have a significant negative effect; as long as I can keep my other levels in check... (actually dont even know if my MG levels are high, but theoretically speaking)

yup...i keep ph buffer as well...and use kent part a and part b supplements in my 37 reef...so far so good...growth is great...my nitrates have never been zero but like i said have never had a problem wutsoever

Good to know a buffer will work against the low alk. in this situation.
