this has probably been asked before but i have some red cyano growing in only one corner of my tank. What would cause this? Also is there anything that would eat it or how would i get rid of it, thanks in advance

The way i got rid of it in my gf's tanks was by buying more nassarius snails. They helped keep the sand stirred up, and they eat all the food that falls to the sand which is what cause the problem in her tank. I've had luck with increased water flow and Rowaphos filter media.

If its in one corner you may not be hitting that area with enough flow. I have used red slime control in the past and have had good results with it. I only do it when the red slime is out of control though. Try to remove it by hand first.

Vac it out and get more flow overall and flow into that corner

I think g-ray said it best...

This is my thinking. Try adjusting/adding flow to the corner of the tank that has the growth.

Red Slime remover is loved and hated by many. Be careful with it, your mileage may vary.

Try to remove it by hand first.

Couple this with the additional flow.

Red cyano is usually do to low flow allowing detritus to build up. It grows in high waste/low flow places. Best control is better flow to the area with an adequate clean-up crew to prevent detritus build up.
As an aside, if it is growing on the sand bad, Diamond gobies are golden for keeping the sand bed stirred up and never letting cyano take hold. They will also remove the current cyano there.

Thanks everyone i think its probably the flow to that area thats causing it but since it is only growing on the sand bed will probably get some nassarious snails and look into diamond gobies.

'ware the dragon gobie as they tend to drop sand ALL over the place. Mine had huge piles of sand (looked cool and natural) on the sand bed and a thick coat on all the rock/coral up to about five inches from the bed itself.

Pretty white sand though.

yeah i think my setup is a bit to small for a dragon gobie anyways

The chemical based removers work well but its only a temporary solution for the real problem.

I cleaned my powerheads and changed the flow a little, also syphoned out some of the cyano, hopefully that does it

im not a believer in the flow theory of erasing cyano. in my 30g i had 2 koralia #2s and the return pump from my skimmer. there were absolutely no dead spots and i still battled cyano from time to time.

there are mixed results with the red slime control. i used it and it worked great but i recommended it to Sherri and it nuked her tank...so best find the cause before the solution.
