Hey just bought this anemone a while ago. I was told it is a blue long tentacle anemone, but I can not find one in my searching that matches its look. Any helps with a positive ID & proper care would be great (I did lots of research, but nothing beats first hand experience). I am a bit nervous since it is my first....

I would say the care for any long tentacle anemone would suffice for this color morph. It looks pretty sweet. Enjoy and good luck!

Where did you buy the anemone?

The anemome seems to have setled into the sand bed quite well, so I do not want to pluck it out just now to take a picture.

It seems to be doing pretty well. The temtacles are reaching up nicely, and I have seen it grabbing some food. It sure is a pretty blue under my lights. I wish I have a better camera. Anyway, this color is just waht my tank needed. If things go well with this little fellow, I think a carpet anemome will be in my tanks future.

I bought the anemone from Polly's Pets in Universal city.

I have 2 10,000 K Compacts and 2 blue actinics... It does a good job in my tank and really brightens it up...Seems to be moderate lighting. My Corlas grow like weeds and the blues make the corals glow. I think the name is Coralife Lunar Aqualight. I got them onsale for $200...They are not as powerful as I wanted, but could not pass up that deal considering they are 6 ft. long. And the lunar lights a really cool at night.

I dont know what fish you keep in your tank but please read and talk to other carpet owners before you get one. Carpets can be a lot of trouble. I have one and well lets just say it has eaten some very expensive fish and not to mention the sea horse. The anemone has doubled in size in the 4 month i have had it. Dont get me wrong I love my carpet but I always worry who he may eat next.

trying to get them to settle where you want is impossible. i just got a new green and i spent 30 minutes keeping him off my other corals. and yes they do like to eat fish .

WOW...A carpet might not be in my future then. I do not want one that will eat fish. i know the long tentacle can eat tank fish, but it is fairly rare form what i have read. What other Anemome would you recomend?

Also, my O. Clownfish has no interest in the anemome. Any suggestions on how to get him interested or what other type of clown fish will be interested in the long tentacle?

if i read your post correctly you are using power compacts on your tank. i would strongly suggest you upgrade your lighting. i am almost certain that anemone is a color morphed Macrodactyla doreensis. it requires moderate to high light. you should, at a minimum, consider t-5's for this animal.

as for the hosting, it is an adjustment thing. my maroon pair took like 3 weeks to finally show interest in my e. quadricolor. then then became quite mean after they began hosting. the process takes time, so give it a couple of weeks. hopefully you begin to see signs at that time. and the process may take a bit longer as the primary anemonefish to host this species are a. clarkii, a. chrysogaster, a. perideraion, and a. polymnus.

and just so you know, a. ocellaris are natural hosts to h. magnifica, s. mertensii, and s. gigantea.

hth's,

~alex

I would look into gettin a BTA, they wont cause you as many issues with eating fish, but still look awesome. Plus if you get one that really likes your tank it will split and then you can sell/give away those to friends.

In my 125 gallon, I keep several pairs of clowns: Clarki's, ocellaris, and tomato. I added 2 bubble tips and 2 long tentacled anemones. The Clarks and tomatos were in the anemones BEFORE they were out of my hands and placed were I wanted them. The Ocellaris ignore the anemones. In my 75 gallon I keep Ocellaris and tomatos, same results. Ocellaris ignore my LTA and BTA.

How do all the clowns get along? Did you add them all at the same time, or gradually?

I always buy immature clowns, I add them all as juveniles and usually put them all in on the same day. If thet LFS has several clowns, I usally try to get 2 that are different in size.
By only buying juveniles and adding them all at the same time, I have never had a problem with fighting even when they reach adult sizes.
Note: What works for me may not work for everyone, take that into consideration.
I will try and add a picture later on of all the clowns together ....if they will cooperate.

Ocellaris clowns are funny animals. Mine hosted on my vortech pump for a long time and now has decided it likes hosting in my hairy mushrooms since they are really starting to multiply and grow.

OK, here are pictures of the mixed clowns: ocellaris, clarks, and tomato. Everyone gets along. This is a camera phone, not the best pictures.

.....

What you have is a M. doreensis (long tentacle anemone, LTA, or corkscrew tentacle sea anemone). This ID is 100% positive due to the orange foot and the white verrucae near the top of the column It is a sand bed anemone. It need bright light and clean water in a stable mature tank. It is somewhat bleached. When healthy, it will be brown with slight blue tinted. I need a sand bed about 3+ inches in height and do not need lots of flow. It is a natural host of A. chrysogaster, A. clarkii, A. perideraion, and it can eat fish although not as dangerous to fish as the carpet anemone.
Hopefully with a positive ID you can read more about it's requirement

That looks like a nice size tank! Cool rock layout as well.
