A friend of mine gave me these and I was just curious what they are.

Disclaimer: Talk to me like a 3 year old, I know absolutely nothing about coral.

It's hard to tell by the picture, but the inside of the "fingers" glows neon green under the moon lights.

Agree with cbianco, the bottom one is Xenia for sure which is a pretty neat coral IMO as I have those in my tank. They will start to pulse whenever I turn off the pumps to feed the tank. They will wave their tentacles in a rythmic pulsing motion. They also grow very fast. I purchased one stalk at the frag swap a few weeks ago and it's already splitting into two (about 80% split down the middle).

Yeah, I was thinking about whether or not to chime in... I agree that the first pic is not a xenia, but is a variant of star polyps.

Second pic is harder for me to tell without seeing the inside of the polyps... could be the same stuff. Could be xenia, but I kind of don't think so.... proportions look off to me. Again, hard to judge by the angle of the photo.

Anyone interested in the Xenia? If it grows fast, it's definitely not what I want for my little 8g.

I'm not a great photographer, but let me try to get some better pics.

Im thinking Anthelia...

Hmm, I did some Googling, and I think you may be right. Anthelia has 8 fingers and each finger has 24 tentacles and grows via encrusting. Looking at the pic it does seem to be a full mat instead of branching stalks (as Xenia would).

Ok, a little better this time.

Top one is GSP. Pretty sure Jim is right about the second...anthelia. Although clavularia might be another possibility. Definitely not xenia.

From the looks of them, the 1st pic is GSP-Green Star Polyp and the second is purple anthelia... Hope this helps... :)

First one is a variation of GSP and is considered an encrusting gorgonian. The stolons on your corals are longer than those found on GSP which is what makes it different. The second pictures is definately Anthelia. It is closely related to xenia but does not pulse and has longer tentacles. They will grow like weeds though and take over very quickly
