Just ordered me a brand new MP40, decided not to take a chance on any used junk. Does anyone out there have any tips or pointers on how to set these things up to generate a gentle wave accross a 3' tank? Im really looking forward to getting this thing just to see what all the hype is all about... Thanks!

Jim you are gonna love it on a 3' tank! My friend has 1 on his 40 breeder and he can get a 3'' wave in his tank. He doesnt keep it that crazy, but its setup on pulse mode and turnd down to like 70%. That gives him around 1-1.5'' wave. It ook a couple hours to get it just like he wanted it, so give it alittle time. Also his was kinda loud at first. We did everything by the book. It has become much more quiet after a week or so of running. Good luck! Have fun with it.

You'll love it. I'm running an MP20 on my 3' tank and can get a little wave action going if I mess with it long enough. I prefer the lagoon mode (I think that's the one) more though. It gives me more flow but in a very random pattern.
I'm thinking of upgrading mine to the MP40 just to give a little more flow but I love how much coverage I get.

I have one on my 180. I can get 1/2" wave on pulse mode. Right now Reef crest mode is best for me. If I get another one I will move back to waves. My powder blue tang loves to swim upstream and pick algae off the front guard. He looks crazy swimming so fast and staying in one place. I just hope he doesn't miscalculate and go head first into the impeller.

I know the thing has like a gajillion settings and modes, Im looking forward to experimenting with it. Not looking for a tidal wave, just a gentle back and forth motion to interact with my Scwd. Better keep an eye on that tang, hate to see its head get chopped off. lol

That's exactly what I have mine doing Jim. I have a SCWD on my return and then using that for flow. You'll be amazed whatching the flow all over the tank once you get it going. I really liked watching with that home made food, you really get an idea of what this thing can do.

Got it today, first impression is, Im not completely blown away by it. Its powerfull but I guess I was expecting more for the price. Im sure once I give it a little time to do its thing and let the tank get used to it, it'll be fine... I was however, able to remove two of the maxi mods I was using, Im liking that. Took a little while to figure it out but once I was able to sit down with the manual, it was piece of cake. Im gonna be trying all the modes availble one at a time, I think Im going to like the short pulse mode the best... Im running it at about 3/4 power and it seems to be working well on a 3' tank. Ive noticed slightly better polyp extention already and I bet it gets better over time once the corals get used to the new motion... Over all, Id say it was probably worth the money and I would recomment it...

I do like it, the one seems to do fine for a tank this size, for anything much larger like over 90 gallons, two would probably be better, at least for me, Im a megga flow. maniac. Still having some iussues with the controller not responding to mode changes though, havent had a ton of time to mess with it but I seem to be having problems accessing and dialing in the short pulse mode. Once I figure out the mode settings, I think it'll be perfect, you're gonna like it, its very quiet and very powerfull!
