I'm just cruious why my post in the "donations needed" thread was deleted? Was it because I had a negative experience with the OP, and voiced my opinion on the subject?

I would have dealt with this via PM but I have no idea who deleted the post. I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, but I would honestly like to know why the post was deleted.

Glenn,
It's in the rules somewhere that you are not allowed to quote pms in a public thread. I think that is what got you. Interesting info though. Might try to go back and make your point in a more subtle, gentle way.
-Kristy

Quoted from by-laws:
b. PM Posting - Pm's are by definition Private,, any public posting of pm's or harrassing pm's by another member will result in an infraction of the rules and will be issued one warning. The second infraction will result in a ban.

Had I seen it, I would have deleted it in a heartbeat. #1, Posting Pm's is not allowed,,, period,, for any reason. #2, That thread is a donation request thread only, not a discussion or opinion thread.... Mr. Byrd, along with myself, requested that the thread remain on topic or any further off topic threads would be removed... Thanks for your cooperation..

I also saw that thread, and WAS tempted to reply.

Frankly, I also felt that AS RESPONSIBLE MARINE AQUARISTS, that we are responsible to educate folks in the correct ways to maintain livestock. On-the-cheap doesn't cut it, with me. It's not responsible to avoid buying equipment or test kits, etc. at the expense of livestock.

That the above discussion is not permissible, because "Mr. Byrd" - who paid the same annual charter fee I did - says you can't, is BS.

From MAAST bylaws:

Paragraph 1: The purposes of the organization are:
1. To encourage the growth of the marine aquarium hobby in South Texas.
2. To educate and inform members and the public about care, keeping and propagation of marine fish and invertebrates.
3. To prevent abuse to marine animals in general, and to conserve the marine environment by promoting intelligent, planned reef management systems.

Well, Bill, I'm so glad you have so much money to always buy the best. I don't feel that this hobby is only for the "rich". There are many ways to keep a saltwater display tank healthy without breaking the bank, of course that means keeping less rare corals and fish but it can be done and can be very enjoyable.

I think some of you attack every chance you get and you have put our President under a very watchful eye and constantly call him out. That is not fair and I'm honestly tired of seeing you guys pop out every chance you get at him.

The support stinks around here and it dampens everyone's spirits...it's like watching a freakin soap opera!

That's my opinion over the last couple of months. Seriously...and if that offends you then it's probably because it's directed right at yah!

Flame away…

Maybe my interpritation of the previous posts is wrong, but from what I read, this is my take on it.

Noone is saying that this hobby is or has to be expensive, what everyone is trying to get across is that if you plan on taking up this hobby reef within your budget. If you can't afford something, then don't get it. Wait til you can.

I just think that there is no problem waiting until you can afford something. Just means that you are taking things slow, which is the easiest way to do this hobby correctly. From reading on here, I have seen tanks not do well when 2-5 weeks after the tank is setup, you are popping frags? I just think that the OP would have better luck, and would have more long term enjoyment if he/she waited until he/she could afford stuff and purchase it themselves, even if it is used.

Just my $0.02

As president, Steve has the authority to do what he feels is best for the members, we as charter members voted him in based on reputation, knowledge and trust. This IS an educational site and when things go awry and cant be resolved through reasonable moderation, both the president and the vice presiden have the authority to make decisions to govern the issues with a conciencious regard for the overall well being of the community, both charter members and web members alike.... Please get past the 'us vs. them' scenerio and lets move on keeping in mind what MAAST is really all about and Please dont force my hand to close this thread.

I agree and did not address this issue. I adressed other direct comments made.

Jim, this doesn't read as a "us -vs- them" thing to me. Seems like people disagree on an issue, and instead of allowing public discussion over an issue that relates to this hobby, deleting comments and locking threads is the apparent answer because certain members don't agree with views that differ from their own.

If you want to debate an issue, start your own thread and have at it, dont use someone elses thread that has nothing to do with the topic.. This is really getting old and to be perfectly honest, boring and non productive... If you have anymore comments, take it to pm...

From the sound of things and I may be totally off base .. It sounds as though members want to discuss the morals or lack of morals in reef keeping .The OP asked why his post was deleted. I believe he was answered. Now we are off topic so maybe a new thread should be started. No name calling, no finger pointing, just open discussion.

mole hill welcome to mountain status

how is him asking for frags different from any other person who does? it isnt other than he is new and not well known. when i tore my tank down i gave every single piece of livestock away that was in it. all in the hopes that i might ask for them back one day when i get another setup. if you dont think im going to pass the hat around when that time comes you are crazy
