Whats the best way to get zoas to open. bought some free floaters the other day of which 2 have opend almost fully and one looks like it is trying to open but the other 2 nothing. I think i read somewhere putting them in higher flow can induce them to open any thoughts. oh and did some tank maintenence today hate my refratometer never seems to have accurate reading but salinity seens a little low so mixin up some water now little high to bring it back up everything seems fine just trying to get those last 2 polyps to open up.

They have a mind of there own and will open when they feel safe and happy.
Get some distilled water and recalibrate your refractometer. Then test your water again you need to wait a like 10-15 seconds seconds to make sure the temperature has adjusted to take a reading. My meter gave instructions to that effect. Now you said your salinity was low what was it at?

Zoas are weird I have some that open right away then close for a week then open again, you can try moving them around sometimes helps but be patient this hobby all good things happen slow

As stated, zoas that are stressed take a little longer to open...doesn't necessarily need high flow, but definitely moderate for proper feeding. Did you dip them before adding them to the tank?
I have purchased several that took weeks to open....be patient, good things come to those who wait. Sounds like you are off to a good start, several are open already.

Both sets of Zoas I've ordered recently were really slow to open up. One took about 3 days, the other one took almost a week. I also have a huge purple colony (the size of a baseball) that they all close up the minute my hand touches the water. They are strange corals to be sure. Mine seem to like medium flow, when I put them too close to the center of the flow they don't like it.
