As some of you know I upgraded to a 110 tall tank that has been calflo'ed. Well I lost one Starry to the over flow so I finally decided to screen off both by bulkheads. Well now I have another Starry (little guy) and and I can't keep his Starry little _____ out of the overflow. Are there any secrets on keeping fish i.e. one Blenny out of it. Today I have had to fish him out of there twice today so far.

Somebody around here was making some neat acrylic overflow lids, cant remember who off the bat, Ill do a little searching and see if I can find the thread unless someone else remembers.

Are they jumping over the wall or slipping through the slits? If they are jumping over, you can get pieces of acrylic from Home Depot for a few bucks.

Either hes getting to curiously close or he's jumping over. My calfo in my slotted with slits. I don't see how see doing it.

I'd definitely pick up a piece of acrylic from Home Depot or Lowe's. That'll at least prevent them from jumping in.

I got a lid made for my old tank. Benschwagger glass did a great job.

I would like to see a picture of this lid. Also see how it works.

Basicly, its a piece of acrylic cut the same size as the outside dimensons of the overflow with small 1/4" pieces glued to the underside to keep it in place, it also has vents cut into the top for air. Pretty simple, I fits over the top without obstructing the flow.

Yeah but what do you do when he gets stuck on top of it and cooks? Not trying to be a pessimist but you have to consider ALL things happening...

well better to cook ontop of the overflow rather than dead in your sump

how about maybe using something like a nylon mesh, that you can glue on, you could cover the top with it or make like a small wall against the overflow...just a thought.

Great point Steve. What if a cover was made that is 3 or so inches bigger than the overflow on the tank side? Then if the fish jumps, it will hit the acrylic and land back in the tank. Hopefully the fish will change its behavior and no longer try to jump.

What about making the cover so it slopes towards the inside of the tank? That way if a fish gets caught on top, it will gradually be forced downwards to the water..

How about a little trampoline? No...on a serious note, anything over the overflow will be dry and heated already. The fish will stick and possibly not slide back into the tank. I'm not trying to be a pain but I know what always happens to me...
