OK, I just bought a new 125 gallon tank setup from Ross and Eve (Pennies2cents). I am thinking about building a new stand and canopy to make some improvements.
I would like the stand 3-4 inches taller so that I can access the 55 galllon tank I am using as a refugium. The clearance below the tank now is too little to do any work in the refugium. Also, I would like to make a hinge-fronted canopy that I could raise the front for easy access (it has removable panels now) and also have the entire canopy be able to hinge up with the light fixture on it when I need to add or remove big items.
Here is the question. The tank is set up and has fish, live rock and corals in it now, has built-in returns that are in the bottom of the tank and is plumbed to the refugium below. The 55 gallon refugium cannot be removed until the 125 tank above it is off the stand, it lifts out thru the top of the stand. How would I go about moving the two tanks to a new stand easiest? The only way I see is to have several 55 gallon plastic trash cans to hold the tank and refugium's water and about 8 people. Some to lift and hold the 125 while others lift and hold the 55 gallon and then yet more people to change the stands out. Now, if the new stand is not a perfect fit, everything has to go back until modifications are made to the stand.
Just trying to get ideas before I start this project (or may not start if the solution is too hard).
