So I love tinkering with stuff, electronics, computers, wood, you name it. I've decided to tinker with my new Biocube setup. After spending a week or so researching i've decided to take a newly aquired sump I got from the Frag-swap and make it a combo fuge and algae scrubber. To do all of that, I have 3 things I have to do: Create a stand to hold the fuge/scrubber, create a overflow to get water from the biocube to the fuge, build the scrubber.

The first thing (and easiest) was to create the overflow. I found a good design on reef central that I dry fitted and ran a test on. It's basically a funky W and I made it out of 3/4" pvc. While it did self siphon after a simulated power failure, it did NOT like being bumped and lost siphon too easily for my liking. I ordered a Aqua-Lifter pump (Idea from MelvsReef) and I will attach it to the joint hanging on the tank. With that running, it will take care of any siphon issues that may arise due to moving or after a power outage. Below are some pictures of the overflow during the dry fit test. I am also thinking about fitting the portion inside the biocube (I will place it in the 1st chamber) with a Stockman pipe in order to decrease the sound. I will then return it to the biocubes main display by the third chamber. I tried a MJ1200, but as yall said it's not near enough horsepower. So I am thinking a Mag5 or Mag7 and let it handle both the return and the flow for the algae scrubber.

I will also be modding the small fuge thats above the "sump" to make it a algae scrubber (http://www.algaescrubber.net/forums/index.php) (http://www.algaescrubber.net/forums/index.php?sid=d325bb05df86fac636b8ad1e813afca3) I am hoping this will be an excellent source for removing nitrates/phosphates, etc. I will place pictures as this is being built as well. I will be cutting out the standing pipe down to an inch or so to give it it's own area to stop splashes, etc.

We are doing a free hot dog handout on the river tomorrow (Feel free to come and tube and get free hot dogs we will be in the Comal river down by Coll Street), so I may not get to work on it too much, but I hope to have the stand finished by Sunday.

Please feel free to comment or make any suggestions, I am by no means all-knowledgeable and I welcome any points!
