So I am going to be going up north to Bastrop for the 4th weekend leaving Thursday morning around 6ish and coming back to kingsville sunday around 6-8pm so my question is will my tank be ok for that amount of time with no lighting. I get little ambiant lighting from the window through the blinds. I don't have a timer for the lights cause i hate the click type. and i can't keep the lights on all the time cause of evaporation worries. I think if i add a bit more water before i leave i should be good with the evaporation rate and not loose too much. but i am worried about my corals. i will have a kenya tree (soon pick it up friday)/yellow polopys/2 mushrooms/bulb tip anenome/candy cane coral for live stock its diomand goby/2 firefish goby/2 clowns/blue hippo tang/coral beauty. also will the fish be fine for food etc. i usally feed them daily. so will they be ok for no food. so that is all my concerns with what i have in my tank.

1. corals ok
2. fish ok

Get a timer and possibly have a friend check for top off, feed, and look out for other problems.

If a tank sitter is not possible, a light timer avoids the inconsistant lighting cycle that creates stress on the fish and corals.

Not feeding should not be a problem

i know what ya mean on hate the clicky types. i went to walmart couple months ago and found a digital timer that i love even came with a remote. was a little pricy but one of the better purchases i have made for my tank think it was $30 but ended up getting it for $15 cause there was another timer exactly like it w/o the remote and only 2 prongs w/o ground :/ and they were all mixed up. just complain to the clerk and they should knock some off for you.

Your corals should be fine for a few days, without light. Happens all the time in nature.

The fish should be ok - but it would be nice if they got fed once or twice while you are gone.

thanks everybody gonna go beat up walmart here and see what they got i really don't have a tank sitter (don't know anybody in kingsville that is sticking around) but i will feed them before i leave and pray the whole time i am gone. i will more than likely be doing 80 plus coming back to the tank lol

update well i trained one of my neighbors on how to fill the tank feed the fish and empty the skimmer if need be and how to run the lights. i tested my water paremeters and salt levels before i left yet i text everyday checking if everything is ok. can you say i spoil my tank a bit much. lol

This situation calls for a controller.

I will pray for you that your neighbor doesnt kill anything! Has he/she ever done this sort of thing before or did you just give them a crash course? I had a friend watch my tank over a 4 day weekend a few months back that actually has some SW experience and I came back to two dead fish and my leather looking like poo! I guess what I'm trying to say is be careful!

Yeah I had a buddy of mine help me with a water change last night and I don't think he retained a quarter of what I showed him as far as tank flow, where to pull water from, where to put it in, and which pumps to turn off when the level dropped in the display.

yeah txted him last night everything is fine. he just has to top off the tank and feed the fish he kicks the lights on for the day and off at night. so so far so good. i keep counting down the days to my return to my babies though. no sw experance for him but he is looking at turning his 29g into a sw nano so he is getting a course on just simple maintance so far. lol but he and the tank are doing well.

ok so i have returned tank is fine and all except one thing made it through i lost a fire goby to my snowflake eel i beleve i have checked the tank and everything no sign of him or body all paremeters are in the norm no amonia rise etc with something dead in the tank so i beleve the eel ate him since my eel is fat and happy. poor fred but frosty (snowflake eel) is happy
