Hey MAAST, I wanted to share my newest adventure with you.

I started the build on my blog AquaNerd (http://blog.aquanerd.com/2009/06/new-house-and-tank-build-part-1.html) but wanted to post it here for everyone to see.

In the process of building this new house, I'm going to attempt to upgrade from my current setup (a 180 gallon SPS reef tank) to a slightly larger 225 gallon aquarium. The reason for the upgrade is a combination of accessibility and style. Right now, I have a fairly difficult time getting into the aquarium because it is 24" tall, has a large eurobrace, and the canopy is very restrictive despite it being so large. So, the new tank will be 72"L x 36"W x 20"H and will be rimless. I plan to suspend a light over the tank, that way I can raise it or lower it to my liking. The canopy is killing me. As for style, this can be a simple fix, but I'm dying to start over. The stand and canopy don't match the style of the new house. The cabinetry is the wrong color and the style is more old fashioned, whereas the house has a more modern feel to it.

But here's the caveat...I cannot do all this unless I sell my the aquarium I am using now. So, the upgrade is depending on that. I plan to sell my entire setup, livestock an all (let me know if you're interested). If I don't sell my 180, I'll just have to set it back up at the new place and start saving for the upgrade.

I'll be sure to update regularly! So stay tuned.

Hey Brandon,
Love those dimensions on the new tank... sounds like a dream! Hope you get to do it. (Can't you just work that into the financing at closing?!? :) )

I wish

I did get a house update though. My wife stopped by on her lunch hour and told me the brick was going up! I'll have to take a few more shots today or tomorrow.

update...

been a while since the last update, but been working hard and haven't had time to run by the house too much.

The builders put the stone on the house and completely finished the brick!

I'm still trying to work out the tank details and selling my current setup has been tough. But I'm working on it.

your house looks like a dream, great stone and birck selection for the outside! It's very open so there'll be plenty of room for the new tank too!

Best of luck on both the tank and home, I've recently moved to our new home and we're still doing modifications to it... (changing carpet to tile in the living room:hypnotyized:)

thanks for the compliments.

they're almost done! i go to closing on the 30th (or at least that's the schedule).

update too...
grass has been laid (and they've been so kind as to water it daily), a tree has been planted, flower bed created, counter tops have been installed, shelving for closets has been installed, and the tile backsplash in the kitchen is supposed to be done by today.

man, i need to update the pics don't i? i'll try to upload some tonight.

oh, and forgot to mention the most important thing, the tank.

i have settled on an Acrylic and Glass Environments (AGE) 72x36x20 rimless glass aquarium with a schedule 80 pvc bottom and external overflow box. for lighting, i'm going to use an ati powermodule 10x80 watt t5ho unit, and for the skimmer i am thinking of using the bubble king supermarin 250 internal. i did kick around the idea of a closed loop, but the energy usage on that thing will be out of this world. so, i plan on sticking with vortechs and tunzes.

the house is in baytown, tx...where i currently live.

i lived in san antonio for a short time while i was at utsa, but sort of changed things up and moved back to the houston area for school.

i moved into the house a couple weeks ago. i've just been so busy to update threads and what not. i sold my other setup finally, and i should be ordering my tank in the next month or so. and man have i been itching to get back into it. it sucks having a rubbermaid tub instead of an aquarium.
