thought I would share a really cool SIMPLE design strait out of JAPAN! I had built this sucker using US standard fittings from lowes and Plexiglas from work. This is good since this is sorta japan inspired setup I have. It is a bubble trap that reduces or eliminates salt creep fizz noise etc.. and best of all it is completely removable!
DIY Material list:
Plexiglass 1/4inch
1inch fittings
plexi tube
methalene plastic bond
Loctite E-120 2 part for pvc to plexi glue aircraft grade (stuff will not breAK!)
Hole saw 1 3/8 and 1 5/8
(First pic is from glassboxdesign)

What do you think the flow rate is on the elbow. Looks like it would be choked off being so close to the bottom.

How tall is this and would it effect the performance if it was made shorter?

well i would guess it would reduce the flow but I dont like a ton a flow in my sump. I am not sure if it was shorter if it would change anything. What I did was basically duplicate the original measurements converted the metric to inches. This one I believe is rated for a 40 gal tank. There are different models that have different ratings. Hope that helps

I noticed when you have a small tankk and a small sump a bubble trap is a must for me I tried afilter sock and it works ok but I still had problems with it and I have to clean it every few days or else it turns into a bad thing. I like this idea because I dont have to clean it and I can remove it whenever I want

now I may have to make something for my skimmer the elos skimmer is made for a sump that uses a filter sock..I am not a huge fan of filter socks due to the constant cleaning

you supply the material and it should not be a problem. Give me a few days with it and you will have one too. I can make one for you PM me Im sure we can work something out. Im currently making another one for my skimmer slightly different.

quick run down on how it works cause i have saltcreep caused by my return the suction hole (drilled to stop back suction) stirs the water pretty bad and i get it all along the top of my glass lid

I'm still a bit confused on how tall this would need to be for my 75 gal tank, w/ 1" overflow.

It all depends on how tall your sump and water line is. how much GPH your return pump is pushing, and how much room we have to work with.

Alright, my sump is a 20 long and the water line in the overflow section will be around 8in. My return pump will be pushing around 750gph, and I have about 25in. of height under my stand to work with. My skimmer will be going in this section also, so I dont have a lot of room left in that section, maybe 4in. x 8in. I guess the reason I'm being so specific is I was wondering if you might be willing to make one of these for me too?

What about cleaning? There is no opening big enough to get your hand inside.

PM me squiers im sure we can work something out.
As far as cleaning you dont really need to. the bottom is completely open it just rests on the floor of the sump and rests on the pane. I doubt it would get that dirty anyways and even then it is completely removable so you could brush it down if you feel the need.
