I was playing with traci's camera today after taking my tank apart redoing all of my rocks and irritating everything in my tank including myself. I cannot stack rocks to save my life, arrgh!! I tried to take a fts but couldnt cause all I got was the flash reflecting off of the glass. I tried some top down shots(without a top down box) and most of them stunk cause of the reflection of my lights or the cameras flash. Would a top down box help this problem? I used a piece of paper to shield the glare of the lights as best I could. I even tried putting my finger over the flash and all I got was weird pics of my red fingers. Traci's camera is a nikon cool pics ,I dont think you can turn the flash off and even if I could then wouldnt the pics be all dark?I angled the camera so the reflection of the flash wouldnt bounce back but then I couldnt get pics of things close to the sides of the tank??anyways here is a few that came out pretty good

thanks Jim, All of the little frags I have been collecting over the years are finally getting big enough to see with the naked eye.I tried to take a fts with traci's point & shoot, All I got was a reflection of the flash. She has taken some nice ones with her big camera but that one is too complicated for me

Does that harlequin eat the asterina for you? You don't have big fish that would eat that shrimp?

PPE chalice is cool. If you ever frag.....

the harlequin eats those rotten asternias, I have two of them cause 1 didnt seem to be eating them fast enough. Still have lots of them in the tank though, time will tell I guess. I think those little stars munch on zoos and acros , not positive though but I have seen them on both types of coral.I have a 5-6" green coris wrasse. I am really not sure why he doesnt eat the shrimp. He could easily, maybe they taste bad?

So does anyone know if the top down photoboxes would help with the flash and the reflection of the lights ruining your pics?

Ok, I am FAR from a photography expert, but I think the topdown box will only help with clarity. The flash is definitely the problem in those photos above, keeping the colors from looking like they should. I can tell that you have a bunch of beautiful and colorful corals, but looking at those psychedelic photos makes me a little woozy! :)

Our cheap point and shoot camera (Nikon S550) has the option of choosing different flash settings, to include a night-time flash and no flash, etc. Look for that option and play with your flash settings for different results.

User manual is available to download online. I, too, am sure there's got to be a way to turn off the flash, considering it's a nicer camera than ours!

No problem at all... I took a quick peek and there is definitely a whole slew of flash options.
