View Full Version : Killer Anemone!!!!!!!

Well this is a new one for me. Woke up this morning to see my threadfin butterfly fish 3/4 swallowed in my anemone. butterfly didn't look sick, not sure what happened.

so should i pull the fish out of the anemone or let him finish?

Yeah, you want to pull that out if you can. Still a dead fish in your system, even though the anenome is trying to consume it. Better off pulling it out of there to be on the safe side.

Sorry about your poor butterfly. When we were newbies, we "fed" a couple of little unsuspecting percula clowns to our condylactis anenome. One of the many mistakes we made before we new about MAAST. Nature can be brutal.

Most likely your butterfly tried to eat the tentacles off the nem and got caught !

I agree. Many butterflyfish eat anemones as part of their diet. Most also eat corals. They are very pretty but not reef safe. I think he got caught eating the anemone. Either the butterfly was going to kill the anemone or the anemone kill the butterfly. In this case, the anemone won.
Btw, anemones and anemonefish have a mutually beneficial relationship. The anemone provides the fish protection from their predators while the anemonefish fight off anemone's predators, like butterflyfish.

One of my two year old Peppermint shrimps died the other day and I sat and watched it feed it to the nem. Too cool.

weellllllll, just let the anemone eat in peace, the carpet I had, ate my harlequin tusk, yeap a very expensive snack.

lets not forget in the wild all is food for all.

Sorry the wife had the camera, and i pulled the fish out as soon as i could.
