I have a baby starfish in my tank. It is an exact replica of my zebra brittle star. Seeing that I know nothing about starfish reproduction...

Is it possible that my starfish reproduced in my aquarium?
Does anyone have a link that talks about starfish reproduction in the aquarium?

might it be a mini brittle star. i had some appear in my tank a few weeks ago. come to find out they came from my chaeto that i purchased from a fellow reefer. now i got a bunch, they are awesome.

might it be a mini brittle star.

That may be a possibility. It was hanging out in the rocks instead of the sand and typically mini's brittles are white. I am going to search for some pictures on the net. <---Starfish pictures that is... lol. :)

my fuge is stuffed with them, sometimes when i'm seperating my chaeto i'll pull my hand out and it will have several small brittle stars as well as lots of amphipods, i usually shake them loose in the main tank and watch my fish go nuts eating them. almost seems cruel now that i think about it...

I'd love more info on starfish reproduction. My tank has been established with no additions for around 8 months. I have a large number of blue starfish. Some of them are the size of a pencil eraser in diameter but others have grown to about the size of a nickel. The only info I can find about blue starfish are linkia, but they just don't look like that. There are some white ones, too. The only starfish I keep in my tank is a single serpent star (no resemblance).

chris - i would also bet that yours are mini brittle stars

phrog - they are likely Asterina sp.(link) (http://www.wetwebmedia.com/asterinafaqs.htm)

Advice heeded! :)

I was just surprised when I saw a mini-brittle with stripes. I am used to seeing the all white mini-brittle stars.
