Ok maybe someone here knows since I haven't been able to get a definite answer. I have an all glass aka aqueon 55 tall reef ready that I want to put a closed loop on. Does anyone have this same tank and have they drilled the bottom and the back of this tank? There's a warning sticker that says do not drill the enclosure but there is no tempered glass warning stickers on it just the said sticker. Is that warning there because the enclosure is tampered glass or is it a warning for warranty reasons. Also the tank comes pre drilled the bottom has no warning or stickers about being tempered would it be safe to assume the bottom can be drilled? The tank is brand new so I am assuming all that all stickers are in place.

P.s. I have unsuccesfully contacted aqueon several times and the email contact form is for suggestions or comments not questions. If anyone can point me to the right information I would appreciate it.

After spending a lot more time on the site I found another email address info@centralgp.com and sent another email. Maybe this time I will get an answer.

As per manufacturer OCEANIC:

The bottom pane of glass on all Oceanic tanks (drilled or not) is tempered except for the Ultimate series and custom drilled tanks. The sides, fronts, and backs are not tempered. Please keep in mind that any drilling of the tank or alteration from its original manufactured state will void the warranty.

As per manufacturer AQUEON:

Maybe, many of our aquariums are made with tempered glass in the bottom. Tempered glass cannot be drilled. Non-tempered glass panels may be drilled by a qualified technician. In some cases, you may special order All-Glass aquariums pre-drilled with the MegaFlow or Twin-Flow overflow systems. You could also special order, in some cases, an aquarium with non-tempered glass if you wanted to have it drilled outside of our facility. If you have an older tank that you want to drill, don’t take any chances - if you are not sure that the glass is non-tempered, do not drill it.

They are both the same company.

Btw that email address was another bogus addy that gave me a bounce back.

Jon so the warning that states do not drill enclosure is only there to warn you about altering the manufactured state and will only void the warranty?

Most of the time only the bottom is tempered. However, if you would like, I personally know someone there that I can call and get a definate answer for you in the morning. I will need to know a UPC code if available. Most of the time you can drill the sides and yes doing so will void the warranty.

I just got a call back. The official word is that all Aqueon tank bottoms (unless noted on their catalog) are tempered even pre-drilled reef ready tanks since they are drilled then tempered. All sides of the tanks are not and can be drilled it only voids the warranty. So thanks for those working on this with me.
