I have had this Superman monti in my frag tank for about a month. Water parameters are all good with CA at 400 and KH at 8. It is approx 4" from the top of the tank under a 150W MH with a new 15K XM bulb. It started to recede when I replace this bulb last weekend. It was under a 20K bulb, new in box, from a person I bought the light from. She got it from Japan. I got advise to run fresh carbon and phospban. I will be removing the phosban today as it has been almost 2 days. can anyone help?

Thanks for your time

The bulb switch might have done it... Did you acclimate it to the new lights?

No Brooks..I did not because I was going from a higher 20K to a lower 15K...would that really have been an issue? How?

Thanks!!

As you get lower in kelvin, the PAR goes up. So when you're at a 20k bulb and you lower it by 5k, you're increasing your PAR (the amount of light falling on a given area). I think I said that right.

When you get to 10k bulbs, those are considered to be "growth bulbs" because there is a HIGH PAR rating. The higher the Kelvin (the more blue bulbs) you have, the less PAR you will receive.

So, when you're making a change like that, it is good to acclimate your corals by putting them lower or possibly putting egg crate or a mesh net over your tank so it is some what shaded.

the 15k is actually a whiter bulb a more intense light. the lower the kelvin rating the brighter the light EX:

you are very welcome

on clipping the skeleton portion of your frag, I had my cap doing the same thing and I clipped off what was dead and it seems to be doing better, but don't know for sure if its the correct thing to do..

I think that depends on if the area is just bleached or if it is actually dead. Sometimes things can bleach out and still have their polyps. Though I'm not sure what you should do in this case.

Ok...got it!!! Jake said the same thing....lower it and leave it alone because there might be live polyps...let us PRAY!!!

The bulb does make a difference, so does current. The lower k the bulb the faster growth you get out of it, but attinic color will give you color it all depends on personal preference. I do agree that some things can bleach the coral and it could be from any additive that you could have thrown in.
