ive heard the best thing to do with these is to just wedge it into a rock...no glue is needed...is that true

I tried that with mine.....about 30 times. The snails kept dislodging it and knocking it off. I then tried Marine epoxy. The same effect. I finally re-arranged the rock so that it sat in a crevice and could not be knocked down. It has finally attached itself and is growing. No glue needed if nothing is going to knock it down.

i personally have just placed a montipora frag before on a rock and it stayed there and it wedged by itself.... i have also tried the epoxy pudding (green clay) they sell it at marine depot u just need to let it hardened a little bit before applying it so it will be more difficult for snails to knock it down but soft enough for ou to mold it. then u can get Live Rock rubble and stick it on the pudding so that it can blend in witht the rock. eventually coraline algae will take over it and cover it.

well to experiment i have 4 frags...so i tried all different techniques.
1. just set it on the rock.
2. superglue it to rock upright(saw it on another marine forum.)
3. wedge it into a rock.
4. glue it bottom down to a decent size rock.(read this at 3reef)

the one i set on the rock is being moved around by snails...:(
superglued upright is still in very good shape
wedge into rock is still there.
glue to bottom down works good as well....
just waiting till they encrust on rock fully...ill keep u updated on wich one works best

I think you might just try super gluing the underside of the frag onto the rock. The growth of a montipora frag starts with it encrusting onto the rock around it, this can depend on the species though. So to allow for more encrusting the frag should be placed on the rock so that the most surface area possible is in contact with the rock.
Also, depending on the size of the frag this may not really matter. If it's a small frag it may encourage growth but it could also affect the way you wanted things arranged. A good idea that many people do is to glue the frag onto a small piece of rock to allow you to move it around untill it outgrows the little rock.
Hope this helps

well the ones that are wedged got ran over by a turbo snail...so i decided to glue them upright...there good now....i even came up with a little technique.
on the frag disk i carved (with an exacto knife)a slit big enough for the monti frag to kinds sit into. placed some super glue gel in the sliver and placed it in. not only will the glue hold but i made the sliver just big enough so it is kinda wedged in there...works great....ill post pics
