i have a FRIEND that has tried this at walmart and target and they actually remove all the equitment and check the serial numbers.

it is the policy of Costco warehouse to offer this to its members, It is not a scam or what ever you may call it. It is a privilege they offer. I called Costco to find out if I had purchased an extended warranty, They replied that they do not offer one, so I told her I had purchased the PS3 15 or so months ago and that the warranty from Sony had expired, She then told me that it is Costco's policy to exchange or refund the total purchase price on that particular item only on a current membership. No need for a receipt as they have access to each members purchases. They offered a cash refund or a Costco Cash Card. This is one of the benefits my 100 bucks for a years membership holds along with 2% return on purchases.. great deal if you ask me.

I really hope my PS3 doesn't go out. I bought one of the 80G G1s that are backwards compatible with PS2. Don't see those anymore.
